I guess the subject speaks for itself... Mostly for basketball, anyone have any specific ideas? My open court speed is good. It's the initial quickness/explosiveness that I need to improve more. Aside from that, I blow a lot of layups because I can't get high enough and end up needing to throw it in more than "laying it in". You guys know what I means? Other day, I saw a couple of people at the gym, they had the hydrolic bar on their shoulders (back of their neck) and were just kinda jumping in their places, squatting with a different leg over and over again. I'm not really good with the terminology obviously, but does anyone know what I mean? Is this any good for what I want? Gym excercises, sprints, whatever.... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Perhaps Plyometrics is what you are looking for. <a HREF="http://www.elitetrack.com/gambettaplyos.pdf">Plyometrics</a>
Great place to start. We did plyometrics int eh off-season my freshman year and it worked really well.
how about getting some of those reeboks or was it nikes they had back in day in which you could pump air in or something.
You mean these? The good old Reebok pump, which did little or nothing to help you cure a bad case of white man's disease.
Masturbation is the key. Oh sure, you do it so much you can't see the rim any longer, but man, can you jump.... Or so I have heard. DD
Air Alert III. It is a 15 week program based upon 4 or 5 different exercises which are done three times a week. Resistance is based only on your body weight, and supplies needed are a sturdy chair and a carpeted floor with ceilings high enough so you do not bump your head. I did the program for 9 weeks and noticed an increase in explosiveness and a slight gain in vertical. I started this in early January and stopped in March. I have maintained my results since then by playing on average twice a week, making sure to aggresively jump when applicable. Hope this helps.
There are other ways of making yourself quicker. Polymetrics does help your vertical and box drills or working ladder drills can improve your foot speed, but the one thing you can do to really improve your game speed is utilize your pivot foot. When you are at the top of the key or getting ready to drive make sure the pivot foot or the foot you intend to drive off of is the closest to the defender. That way instead of taking a little step to "explode" to the basket you are taking a giant step towards the basket and covering more ground in the process, hence you have created a quicker first step. Also pay attention to your defenders feet if you rip through and see that he has choosen a side or has moved for a fake to one side, drive off the close pivot foot to the opposite side, this will put him out of position when you take that giant step. These are basic moves but they will create quickness for you, especially if you have good speed to begin with. I truly belive there are two types of quick, those people that are naturally quick and those that manufacture there quickness, often they are reffered to as deceptivly quick. Sorry to jump in and make this thread seriouse, continue with the mocking of the pumps
All those programs pretty much charge you for the info. Anyone got the info already and wouldn't mind sharing it with us? That's what scanners are for lol..
