There are two parties, and (in the age of the internet) you are only able to inform yourself on one of them. And now your asking for a third? You can't even handle the two we have now.

And to call Obama a male version of Palin shows you may not have much knowledge on the issues of your own candidates.

I do agree we need a third party though.

What a complete load of bull****.

I'm sorry you are ignorant Fatty, seriously. But your ignorance is not indicative of anything other than your own suspect intelligence and curiosity.

Frankly, your post is a not-so-subtle reminder of the willfull and proud ignorance that is dooming the republican party.

The phrase I coined to describe fatty and those like him is "aggressively ignorant". You actually have to make a concerted effort to be this misinformed.

Excellent post. I'm guessing you purposely left out the fact that Obama is a professor at U Chicago and a constitutional law expert (while Palin can't name a single Supreme Court decision other than Roe v. Wade) because you didn't want to pour it on too strong. :)

I wonder why some conservatives refuse to take obama's academic achievements into consideration?

    again....

    Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption i n 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you rea lly believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

    Educational Background:

    Barack Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna c*m Laude

    Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in Histo ry and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

    vs.

    John McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

    Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
    Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
;University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. You make the call. There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are today. Of course, there is a generous dosage of country-wide stupidity too.

It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.

I'm glad you said, because unlike TJ, Basso, and Texxx, I'm really trying hard not to play the race card.

we know what would happen if obama had the unwed teen daughter, its not even debatable.

Obama would NEVER EVER NEVER be nominated for president if he had the educational background and current family background of either of these candidates on the other side of the ticket. Especially Palin's. It simply would not happen. Because he's black. [sec guy voice]NEXT [/sec guy voice]

It would not happen if he had their demeanor, either.

It would not happen if he had their "lack of morals", either.

This kind of stuff really burns me up. I just can't stand hypocrisy of this caliber.

FFB's original post started out so seemingly good intentioned, then wham, his true message emerged.

    That was pretty clever.

MM, you could've just said that those who support McCain are racist and/or stupid, and saved a lot of time.

Or he could point out a difference in the dynamics which is far more substantive.

    Nicely done Max.

Actually, I didn't write that...but I will take responsibility for posting it.

If I had said that I'd be lying...because I don't believe that. There are lots of reasons people would support McCain and not Obama. We can agree to disagree over those issues...we can discuss them at length, and we should.

But it doesn't make any one of those statements less true...and that doesn't make someone who supports McCain a racist. It's just the reality of the situation. If Obama had Palin's education background and current family situation, I do not believe he'd be nominated for president. That's all.

My parents are voting McCain...as is my sister and brother-in-law. I love them dearly and do not find them to be racist. That's not what I read from this post. What I read from it, ultimately, is a comparison about the education of each of these candidates. That's what the author ultimately breaks it down to.

So you are saying that Barack Obama would still be a major party's nominee if he had divorced his first wife, adopted a white baby, and trotted a pregnant unwed daughter on stage with him? I just don't buy it -- we'll never know for sure.

If anything, the post is calling Democrats racist. I don't think he could have beat Hillary if two or more of those listed items were true of him.

You remember that thread about douchebags?

Is it just me, or are 9 out of 10 douchebags Republican? I'm not saying vice-versa, but it seems to be true..

Palin wasn't nominated. She was a (poor) strategic selection for VP. All candidates trot their families on stage. If Palin didn't, y'all would be saying she was hiding them ;).

The 'what if' game is pretty subjective. I agree with some of your post...but not most. Maybe I'm just more optimistic?

I read an interesting comparison of Obama to Edwards (the pre-National Enquirer Edwards !). Smart guy, charismatic, lawyers, good looking, excellent speakers, insightful, self made..etc etc. Edwards fizzled. Obama triumphed.

Obama's raised more money then any candidate. He defeated the 'incumbent' and self-appointed heir to the throne in the primaries. At 47 his relative inexperience has not hurt him. (not in any way comparing him to Palin, here, and I've been very impressed by his insights, ideas and the accomplishments he has had). Yet he's on his way to an electoral landslide (I'm pretty sure). Winning 'red' states. Hundreds of thousands at his rallies. Endorsements from a huge variety of different people.

I just don't see racism at play here in any significant way. I don't see it holding him back. His race is certainly part of who he is. And racism does continue in many areas of our lives. But...in this particular election...if race is such a big deal, why isn't Edwards on the ticket? Why has Obama raised so much more money then any candidate in history?

If he was a divorcee? I don't know. Regan was. If he had an unwed pregnant daughter? Again....if he fully supported her...no doubt the attack and defence teams on the intrawebs would switch scripts...but who knows? Kerry was hurt more by his association with the anti-Vietnam movement then Obama was with the rantings of the preacher who visited his home and presided over his marriage. But, sure, chip away at his character with a few more 'what ifs' and eventually he becomes unelectable.

Many have said he'd never get the nomination. Others continue to say he won't be elected. And they're wrong. So...if his background was different would he still be elected? Who knows? Kerry wasn't elected and he had all the so-called advantages. Edwards couldn't even get his own party to give him a significant run at the nomination.

He's one guy. Doesn't mean racism doesn't continue to affect others, and him -- in certain areas of his life. But on this election? I just don't see it. ANd that's good.
