In retrospect, our 2009 draft was pretty poor

Morey passed on Dejaun Blair twice. If he had any plans at all to use Landry as a trading chip, Blair was the much better pickup than Taylor or Llull, who may never even contribute to our team. We could have already had Landry's replacement, but instead we have two players that aren't very valuable in terms of trade value or on-court ability.

Out of three picks, the only decent one is Chase Budinger, who will probably peak at mediocre. I don't ever see him being even an above average starter. He'll top out as a weak-link starter or a decent 6-7-8 guy. His shooting is dipping towards Ariza territory and he doesn't rebound or assist much. Not that that's bad for where we picked him though. In fact, that's pretty good for a player selected as late as him. The other two picks though make a strong case for always taking the best player available instead of drafting for "need."

we didn't have any picks in 2009 and we ended up with Chase.

    How is that poor?

half a season into landry's rookie year you would've said the same thing about him not playing.

    give these guys a chance.

plus the '09 draft was pretty good since we got the 8th overall pick lol.

also i think Chase's ceiling is anywhere between 12-4-4 and 17-5-5, hes a very good all around player with a high iq

So easy to say when hindsight is 20/20. I don't see the point in looking back at draft picks unless it's Darko

Once again, someone jumping the gun and doubting Morey. Good luck with that, bro. You'll need it.

It's too early to judge any of those 3 players or what they will turn into (including as part of future trades).

This should be a bumpable thread in 2 or 3 years, maybe sooner.

Judging a draft after 8 months is foolish.

Chase is already well ahead of where anyone would normally project for a mid second round pick. Taylor has seen limited minutes and looks raw, but definitely has NBA athleticism. It'll be a couple of years before we know if we have anything there.

Llull is a top point guard with NBA level size and athleticism, and is still very young. Have you even researched the guy and looked into the Rockets interest in him, or are you making a false assumption that he sucks just because he plays overseas and has a name that looks funny?

in retrospect this thread was pretty poor.

You have got to be kidding. Second round picks and what were you expecting?
If not for Blair's health he would have been a top 15 pick. Maybe if we had a dire need for a PF then Morey takes that chance. Just like someone mentioned, Morey and Addleman are a great 1 - 2 punch!

I'm sick of hearing about Blair. Define our draft by what we have, not by ONE GUY that dozens of teams also passed on.

We went in with no draft picks and came out with a rotation player and two projects. What in the hell did you expect?
