I think the whole problem with the Hakeem situation is he doesn't like being on a team that always talks about making it big after he's gone. He wants to be part of a plan and not just dead weight. Hakeem would be fine with his role on this team if we were a contender, which we aren't.

I want to know if this could be a possibility? If we should happen to land Webber for next year could we sign Hakeem for the exception. That way he could have another year on a contending Rocket team before he retires. He could be a great 3rd or 4th alternative if we got Webber. If we don't get Webber I wouldn't bother signing Hakeem. I feel if Les or Carrol would tell Hakeem there would be a chance they would resign him and he could be part of a possible plan next year he would do it for cheap and would feel better this year. He could feed off Webber like Vlade and be a second alternative down low. This way we could send him out on great terms on a good team where he has a role and isn't just filling space.

The problem is that Hakeem simply doesn't fit the team anymore. It is hard for people to accept but he just can't get up and down the floor with these younger players. How the players fit is most important.

But if Webber were here the offense would slow down and he could fit for stretches of the game. By keeping him this would keep about 15% of the Rocket's fans who follow the team because he is still playing. By the way, who is to say what our offence is going to be. The kind of game we play now really doesn't work. All the dominant teams have set, low-post alternatives. Lakers, Portland, San Antonio, and Utah frequently go to the post and aren't that up tempo. If Hakeem can't keep up with this team do you think Shaq, Sabonis, Robinson, or Malone could keep up with this pace. I don't think so. But they are on better teams, because a set offense works better with a little running thrown in.

This would be a pretty good option if it were a possibility. My favorite part is where we get CWebb. [IMG]
