The Rockets have once again gone against the grain and taken an unconventional method of drafting. Though I dont agree exactly with what they did, its not as bad as people are making out to be imho. Personally, I think the mistake was made when they passed on Jerome Moiso. Once they did that and took Pryzbilla, I had no problem with this move down. Jason Collier is a player I have followed closely this season, I watched him about 5 times. Back in the first portion of the NCAA season, I actually thought this guy had some potential to be a Houston Rocket. However, with all the underclassmen declarations esp Moiso, I did not think the Rockets would go this route. As far as Collier's game. Jason Collier should be a solid NBA player imho, nothing special but a solid 15-8 type player. He has legit NBA 3 pt range and added a post game to his repertoire this season. He has a very nice hook shot in his repertoire which will be effective. Face up game is also solid. He can face guys up and either shoot from the perimeter or put the ball on the floor and make a move. He is a solid rebounder and does a good job of crashing the glass. He can play both PF and C at a legit 7-0 250. Even though he seems slow on the court, his lateral movement is solid. The weakest point of his game his defense. Its not totally non-existant like many assume, but it could be better. He plays solid position defense and does a little bit of shot blocking. He wont be the answer to the Rockets problems in the frontcourt, but he will atleast be a solid contributor. As far as the pick next season from Milwaukee, that is a definite plus. Next yr's draft is a lot deeper than this one; it is absolutely stacked. The Rockets will likely be back in the lottery, but they would be in good shape with atleast two top 15 picks. The Rockets are taking a long term approach to building this team, and I can live with that. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited June 28, 2000).]
The Bucks have until 2007 to hand over that pick, so don't expect it anytime soon. ------------------ "I wanna eat his children."
From what I understand, that 2007 rule only applies if Milwaukee's pick is in the top 10, which it won't be. If it's not in the top 10- we get it next season. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
Cabbage, that is not accurate. Here are the terms on the pick from the Chronicle: "If the Bucks' pick is in the top 10 next season or beyond, they would keep the pick until it is No. 11 or later." So basically there is no picking and choosing here. If the Bucks pick is after 10 next yr, the Rockets get it AUTOMATICALLY. If it isnt, they just move on to the following yr. I expect the Bucks to pick anywhere from 12-17 next yr. A 13th or so pick in next yr's draft is equivalent to a 9th in this one as the 2001 draft is stacked. Essentially, the Rockets basically got a 7-0 250 big man that fits into their team for almost nothing. Folks, the Rockets brass is not stupid, they are very seasoned in what they do. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Why couldnt we draft Moiso? He is much better than the peice of **** collier. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB [This message has been edited by Francis3 (edited June 28, 2000).]
Francis3, I was thinking the same thing and wonder it still, but I guess the Rockets didnt like Moiso. However, I am VERY happy they moved Pryzbilla, and I think Collier will really surprise some people. Pryz was one guy I was very questionable on and did not think he fit this team. Plus, they will likely get a 12-17 pick in a chock full 2001 draft. The Rockets could have two picks in the top 15 in one of the deepest draft in recent memory. Be patient, this will play out in time. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
MManal: You're right, I'm glad you pointed that out. Well, that certainly makes this deal look a lot better. With Dallas likely ready to break in as the 8th seed, the Rockets very well could head into next year's summer with their own lottery pick, Milwaukee's medium range pick, the Detroit pick, and a horde of cap space. ------------------ "I wanna eat his children."
tcab-I was telling you that yesterday in the chat! Not just 2, maybe 3. Detroit pick. Now who else would be drooling over drafting Eddy Curry and Terrence Morris? ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Draft Moiso. Trade Moises. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
What about the pick we owe Vancouver? ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
not till 02. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
We could have as many as 4 picks couldn't we? Don't we still have one coming from Orlando? That would end up being ours, Milwaukee's, Detroit's, and Orlando's. If we get lucky, and cash in next year on everyone who owed us a pick we could have four picks to deal with. Maybe packaging two or three to go way up into the top of the draft. Sounds great to me. Especially if the draft next year is as deep as everyone says it will be. We could be the ones holding all the cards next year like the Clippers, Bulls, and Magic were this year. If that happens next year, we look exactly like the magic did this year...tons of picks and tons of cap space, but imo in a better position with guys like Cat, Steve, &SA. ------------------ He who stands for nothing will fall for anything. I think the Bucks pick will be in the 20's. They're going to better next year IMO. I wouldn't get real excited about packaging picks for a top pick. Chicago and Orlando weren't too successful at that. ------------------
Oakdogg, I cant see the Bucks being that good. The teams I feel that have better records than them are, Lakers, Blazers, Suns, Jazz, Wolves, Heat, Pacers, Knicks, Spurs (if they keep Duncan), Kings, Sixers, Hornets (if they keep EJ), Mavs and possibly the Raptors and Sonics. Thats potentially 15 teams right there. The bubble teams like Raptors and Hornets could be replaced by Orlando if they lose their free agents to them. That's why I think the pick will be in the 12-17 range. The Bucks were a mediocre team, and I doubt the acquisition of Pryzbilla will improve them much. I am just not that sold on him. Even the people that are sold on him feel he still needs to develop before he can become productive. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Collic may fit our team needs swinging from 4 to 5 while hitting the outside shots, and we will likely get an extra pick in next years draft, but you guys are MISSING THE OBVIOUS!!!! It will suddenly all make sense when it is shortly announced that Milwaukee is trading the Big Dog straight up for Walt Williams. Darnit, how do I paste one of those little Smilies winking? Capologists need not reply, I'm only kidding! ------------------
Collier doesn't look to be that bad. No matter what happens Rudy will make it all better. ------------------ I AM SPARTACUS
Collier had too many turnovers last season as a senior. That is a bad impression. His FG and 3pt shooting % could be better. ------------------ "UNBEATABLE"
