    ........ do they have butterfingers?

I'd go to snopes and check this out, but I think there's an ice cold glass in the freezer that needs checking out.

Not sure I should even reply to this in this forum, but... I found this on the DFW NBC affiliate website under the "Fact or Fiction" section in the "News" area:

    LARGE CANDY PURCHASE?
Another rumor that’s making the rounds: The FBI is investigating the purchase of large quantities of candy from discount stores in New Jersey. This is fact.

The Bergen Record newspaper reports a man who made the purchases is already in federal custody because of immigration issues.

The FBI says it has no evidence to justify canceling Halloween events, and encourages the public to remain "alert but calm."

If there's something you'd like us to check out, tell us about it. Email Fact or Fiction here.

    This thread should be moved...

As for how they will give it away - think in terms of dispersal. Odds, probability. Some of it will be given away before Halloween, if not most of it. Everyone eats candy. Everyone handles candy wrappers.

If a stranger walks up to you 2 days before Halloween and gives you a piece of paper with a party address on it (attached to a Snickers bar) you wouldn't think anything of it... I'd advise not touching the invitation now.

I frankly don't know whether you ought to check your kids' candy this trick or treat. Normally you'd want to check it for syringes and razor blades, but that's pretty cursory and standard for anyone who's been paying attention. You can't check it for biologicals.

F**k, I dunno. Eat at your own risk. :(

(that is the first time I've ever posted a :( sign)

I studied - get this - Middle Eastern Terrorism and Biological Warfare. I got into a heated argument with my Professor about the subject: he told me that I needed to focus on greenhouse emissions, and not bioterrorism and ME attitudes.

Ever since Sept 11 I've been wanting to call him up just to say "I told you so, MF

He failed me in a class called Quantitative Futures Research for it. I of course got an A+ in Qualitative Futures Research...
(this took an extra semester to get)

I told that ******* what was going to happen, and he didn't want to believe it, so he failed me.

Am I the only one who thinks that it would be poetic justice to pay for the last two classes and nail down the degree he sponsors - from the Army?

He failed me because he thought I wasn't researching global warming enough. I have, and it's a lie. He failed me because I am hostile to Arabs. I am, and they are hostile to the US.

I basically have no rules except for saluting the Flag.

If someone wants to kill my family, I am going to do my damnest to kill them first. Ethics out the window. I have gotten two separate death threats. Bin Laden's manual instructs them to kill military intellectuals... And their families. It might not be personal to you guys, but it is to me.

Treeman, I am willing to bet you money that when they find the people who are spreading the anthrax, they won't be Arab. Of course, I don't have a lot of money to bet, and I would like to have my odds handicapped a bit, but I'm willing to put money on the fact that the anthrax in the mail is made by white, American born, terrorists. Timothy McVeigh style.

And treeman, I love reading your posts, I have for a long time, but I can't figure out how someone who seems as smart as yourself can take such broad stance against the entire Arab peoples.

    Backwardhead,

There are 3 countries that have the technology to do this.

    US
    Iraq
    Russia

This is not something you can make in your basement. This is not the works of one person. This is a group of people. The US has accounted all of their supplies of anthrax (at least thats what they tell us). I don't think Iraq would sell to a "crazed" white american.

There have been animals found dead around Laden's camp and its suspected to be anthrax. Face it, it points to middle eastern terrorists. Quit being naive. 6000 people died because we were naive enough to believe this would never happen to us.

Hmmm... the National Academy of Sciences or treeman, hmmm... who should I believe? :)

Incidentally, I just started taking a second session seminar on Atmospheric CO2 Biosystems. I'd say your research was a ****ing joke.

I am hostile to terrorists, I am hostile to those that would infract upon my freedoms. But I'm certainly not hostile towards an entire ethnic group.

    Space Ghost,
    Who's being naive?

To be honest, my response to treeman was not because I am so sure that it was an American born individual or group who was reponsible for the anthrax, but because I was upset by his blatantly racist statement. However, you yourself even stated that the US has the technology.

If you think that the only people in the US with access to anthrax, and the intelligence or resources to potentially turn it into what is considered a weapons grade anthrax, are the military, then it is you who are being especially naive.

I'm not saying that I have access to information which could prove that its happening. But to deny the real possibility is to be guilty of the same naiveté that you say lead to the destruction of the WTC. The belief that it can't happen here.:(

    We don't know.

There are compelling signs that the anthrax scare is a terrorist attack.

    But, that is not conclusive.

As it stands, you are at greater risk for harm while driving a car than from anthrax still.

    Be prudent, not hysterical.

i saw this afternoon on CNN that the ex-CIA director believes that Iraq almost certainly had a part in 9/11...combine that with anthrax, and it's bye bye Baghdad.

    Not paranoid, moe... vigilant.

If you ask me it's all a government conspiracy. The Govt releases anthrax on its own people to fuel the war hysteria and the people of the U.S. blindly agree and follow along.. The Govt then attacks other countries it has a beef with (IRAQ) and boom, ya got oil and poppies (afghanistan)... the two things our govt wants most, oil and drugs.

    or maybe we're just paranoid...
too many late night conspiracy websites...

I'm not so afraid of anthrax as I am of the broadly anti-Arab rhetoric this whole thing has given rise to. In my mind, that's the real danger.

And I know this isn't the forum but, Go Rockets!:)
