Given that we can convert house's contract anytime .... the delay must be about potential future years .

    Either we

    A) are not offering enough $
    B) we are trying to lock him up for too many years
    C) A&B

    Or

    D) house is determined to hit FA no matter what

I could talk all day about incentives both the rockets and house have and the varying angles of this negotiation.... but for now I want to focus on the present trade off.

We are negotiating to try and keep him long term . In the meantime he is not playing for us .

Are those games next year more important than having him on the floor as quickly as possible ?

What is house's impact on the game currently ? Do the rockets have the depth to survive games without him ? Is house a foreseeable part of our rotation the rest of this season ?

The time it takes to negotiate is value lost for the rockets and potentially value lost for house too .

Here are some other questions the rockets FO needs to answer . Would keeping House next year prevent us from keeping rivers ? Who can we expect to get in the buyout market ? Who can we get with our "tradeable" assets (knight/ Chriss )

    That's a lot to evaluate...

However , a deal not getting done still looks bad because House is playing well for us right now , he's a hometown kid , he earned this chance .

Chemistry is a delicate thing . I know house can potentially be a bargain for us if we lock him up . But you can't discount how well he is playing now and the effects on the team morale . What does it say to harden when you are so concerned about getting max value out of House that you are willing to send him to RGV ?

He did indeed earn his chance. And the Rox offered him a 3-year guaranteed NBA contract, despite the fact that this is the first time in his post-college career he's shown enough for a team to want to keep him. I like the way he's played so far, but unlike guys who were drafted and stuck with a team, House has bounced around enough to know that an NBA career isn't guaranteed to role players.

Another way of looking at it: House just passed up millions in guaranteed money that would have seemed unthinkable to him just two months ago because now he's certain he's going to attract attention as a FA? I'm willing to bet every GM in the league knows that role player stats are greatly dependent on what system someone plays in and who his key teammates are.

"Let's see, Mr. Agent... Your client is a fringe player who knocked around a lot, then got lucky and played well in a D'Antoni system with James Harden pulling all the defenders to him every damn play? 1 year guaranteed and 1 year team option is the best we can do."

I get what you are saying . There are definitely two sides to it .

But on houses side , he worked his way into starting and the only long term deal the rockets are offering would have him making minimum for 3 years .

It's not unreasonable for House to think he's worth more than that .

The risk on his side is also clear .

My preference is to try to get him a two year deal ; or a 2 year with a player option for year 3.

Don't get me wrong. He is very consistent player. If Morey wants to help him out by offering him a deal for the rest of the season, he is going to sign a 1-year 8 million contract with someone in July comparing to JJ Redick 1-year 23 million deal.
If he stays with G League for the rest of the season, he is not coming back. Morey is not going to match the offer even if it is only 5 million a year deal.
I watched all last 10 games he played. Age 25-29 is the money.

My thought experiment is that give House 2-year deal. I think it's more reasonable.
This season: 1.2 million for the rest of the season
    Next season: 2.8 million

The concern is that Tilman would think 4 million dollars is a lot of money.

i can see why he thinks he's worth more than the minimum too. he thinks he's the starting SF on a playoff team and wants to be paid accordingly. well, now he's a g-league player. maybe enough time there will make him appreciate an NBA roster spot and guaranteed money a bit more. in the mean time nunnally is auditioning to take his spot.
