the article basically says why it probably won't happen, but still an interesting method of going about impeachment. i basically agree with one of the last lines, http://www.concordmonitor.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060330/REPOSITORY/603300359/1002/NEWS02 i do wish there was a method of going about a vote of no confidence. the border issue is the staw that has broken my back with bush. between this, his free attitude with spending, last year's involvement of teri schiavo... and his social security plan was on the right track with privatization, but when it boils down to it, that was just a dumb idea too.
Republicans control Congress. They have showed zero interest in investigating W. Democrats see the President as a lead pipe that is sinking Republicans in the 2006 and likely 2008 elections. Not impeaching W also seems like a good idea to them.
Only chance is if the Dems take control -- the house is looking pretty good, but the senate is a looong shot.
A kinda agree with no worries. I think the dems should just let Jr. sink his party for the next three years. Plus he's never had to clean up a mess his whole life; it's about time he starts.
It is just political posturing. There are a lot of citizens wondering why there was never even a discussion about impeaching Bush over lying about starting the Iraq war and yet Clinton gets railroaded over a sex scandal. So now the left can say that they tried to impeach Bush but it will obviously fail. And I agree the left wants to keep Bush in power for obvious reasons. Bush in power is good news for the Dems thru 2008. But the Dems have to put on a show to make it look like they are going after him.
The Democrats have no leverage to push for impeachment and with the 2006 elections up in the air many Democrats are leery of what happened in 1998 when the Republicans lost seats partly because the impeachment was seen as extreme. If the Democrats gain control of the Congress in 2006 and GW Bush's popularity takes a even greater dive, down to 25% or so, I could see impeachment happening in 2007.
I'd rather a Dem controlled Congress end each month while in session with a censure. They need to ruin his legacy with unambiguity so some future wide-eyed ideologue won't romaticise his 8 hellish years with delusions and Limbaughisms.
That was the philosophy after the 2000 election... his numbers were below 50% and going south. Dems did nothing to hasten that fall or keep the pressure on. Then, 9-11. The world is too unpredictable for a passive strategy.
