"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." --US Constitution. Article II, Sec. 4. "... those offences which proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust. They are of a nature which may with peculiar propriety be denominated POLITICAL, as they relate chiefly to injuries done immediately to the society itself." --Alexander Hamilton, March 7, 1788 in "The Federalist Papers : No. 65." Incompetence is not a reason for impeachment - or hasn't been thus far. But considering the leading of a nation to war under false pretenses, the illegal wire tapping, and some of the other questionable acts encated by Bush.... is there grounds for this president to be impeached?
The wire-tapping is, only because we have no other means of dealing with illegal activites of a President. But if he caught even one terrorist or suspected/potentail terrorist and/or collaborator (forgive me for not knowing whether or not he has), then you have mitigating circumstances.
this should have been a public poll.... those voting no, only vote how they feel and not on fact. i wouldnt be against the idea of removing him from office, however he hasn't commited any of the listed arguments, therefore he can't be removed. if a recall were allowed though, i think he'd be gone in a second.
Houston and Austin aren't typical of the rest of the state. And from now on you better capitalize the name of our great state, Yankee. If it can be proven that he lied, not misjudged or acted on bad intel, but flat-out knowingly lied to the American people about our interests in invading Iraq, then yes.
No. The Clinton trial was a farce and a waste of time and money. Bush's impeachment would be no different.
love to see it but it wont happen, dudes got more back up than.....well anything or anybody actually. bring on the next elections.
Impeaching the President is a serious matter. The procedure should be based on criminal intent and wrong-doing -- not spite. Of course, the only way this could happen is with a Democratic tidal wave at the mid-term elections giving Nancy Pelosi the Speakership. What a sad day that will be (IMO as a moderate). Overnight Pelosi would radicalize the Democratic Party and perhaps make it anathema to the everyday American. The Democratic Party may well shoot itself in the foot with an impeachment. The proceedings will give Republicans an issue to solidify around and then rally themselves with gusto leading to even greater natiional divisiveness. Spite begets spite. Without a careful strategy, I foresee the Democratic Party using an enormous amount of political capital to pull off an impeachment and thereby peaking too early for the real prize in 2008. For two years of thunder, the Democratic Party could well succumb to four to eight more years of a Republican White House.
thumbs: If you were a true moderate, you'd be way, way, way more freaked out by Bush than Pelosi. True story.
It was dumb to impeach Clinton and it would be equally dumb to impeach Bush. Do you want Cheney as President? Holy crap!!!
I would impeach him...today.....however, he can be made a lame duck by losing control of the house or the Senate in November...either works for me. DD
Impeach both Bush and Cheney. Lying to Congress, abuse of power, corruption, fraud, endorsing torture... where does it end really?
Bush deserves jail time. He is done more harm to the country and to the world than anyone else did in the past 50 years.
