The Bulls overcame the odds and will have the first pick in the draft. If they pick Derrick Rose, as is expected, does this make Kirk Hinrich available? Do the Rockets have the assets to get him? Is he worth acquiring? Because of the size of his contract, could the Rockets move Alston and some expiring contracts to get him so the Bulls have a better chance at resigning Gorden and Deng? What other suitors would there be for Hinrich? Any input on this would be most appreciated...

captain kirk hasn't been playing his best ball lately... but I think that he would do well under adelman. Although I wouldn't write rafer out of anything yet.

I was just coming to clutchfans to make a thread about aquiring hinrich.

The Bulls will probably be looking to move him if they do decide to get Rose, so here would be my offer:

    -Bobby Jackson
    -Mike Harris
    -Aaron Brooks
    -Future 1st and 2nd

    for

    -Hinrich

I would be all for trading for Hinrich. Excellent defender and decent shooter. I know he struggled last season, but he is still young and more than likely will bounce back.

I'm pretty sure the deal I posted above would not work, but I honestly cannot come up with something better, unless we included Battier and they included Nocioni (although I don't want to trade Battier).

Why would the Bulls take Rose? Haven't they needed an efficient low-post scorer ever since they traded Elton Brand? Isn't that the reason they were linked to Pau Gasol and KG for who knows how long?

I still think the point guard is not a priority right now. Rafer is good enough. But if we do have a chance to get Hinrich for the right price, we gotta go for it. Forgetting his ONE off-year last season, he has some tools that'll fit perfectly to our team. He's a solid consistent shooter, good ball-handler, good on-the-ball defender, and a good leader. I really thought he was on pace to be an all-star this year, before his mysterious shooting slump last year.

Sometimes teams draft for talent rather than need. Still, I have a hard time believing Rose would instantly supplant Hinrich at the PG spot.

Bulls will draft Beasley. They have needed a big man inside to score anyways. They have no other choice.

Hinrich still managed to shoot above 40% at 41.4% (FG). Alston hasn't achieved this in his career as a Rocket even though he improved his shot accuracy by nearly 2% to 39.4%. Their 3P%s are similiar. Hinrich has to guard for Gordon. A bad season that becomes a small opportunity for the Rockets. Buy low, sell high.

Bobby Jackson is the Rockets big expiring asset ... they wouldn't be left with much to add a wing scorer. I'm not convinced yet that a) Hinrich is going to be traded so they can get Rose (Beasley could be the pick) nor that b) Hinrich is the route the Rockets should take, but I think if you do pursue that deal you probably are trading Rafer, who has 2 years left on his deal.

Hinrich is signed until 2012 ... basically he has 4 years and $36+ million left on his contract. His numbers this past season do concern me, but his 2006-07 would be very nice. I didn't watch Hinrich much this season so I don't know if this was just a bad year in general for the Bulls or a decline in Hinrich. I'd be especially curious to know if his defensive skills are still there as I would guess his shot would come back.

I think his play, well shooting percentages, dipped because teams had figured out the bulls. Everyone on their team saw a dip in their shooting. I think when teams played them they just matched their intensity and that left them without any edge. For some reason, the season before everyone was afraid of their penetration. This season teams realized that they aren't very good at finishing and just stayed at home on their shooters.

As far as him on our team...
He's not much of a penetrator, as you can see from his fg%, but he is a good shooter and a good playmaker. I think Calderon is better but i would actually rather see Hinrich here because i think he fits with our style. He can be our Fisher.

If it were me running the Bulls I wouldn't consider trading him just for that reason.

It is the Bulls we're talking about though. They've HAD close to a top pick for a decade and here they are still panhandling for draft magic.

I believe a change in scenery (us) would show a change in Hinrich, but it is a gamble. I think the Bulls imploded because Scott Skiles is such a martinet and because of the cloud of a Kobe Bryant trade that never occurred.

I feel like Michael Beasley is the top talent in this draft right now, and the only reason the Bulls shouldn't draft him is if they have character concerns; this guy was a real knucklehead in HS (admittedly, I thought that Chris Paul would have some issues in the league too after he threw that low blow on Julius Hodge).

However, since the only other threads currently up are either some combination of "Bobby Jackson/Hayes/Head/25th Pick for another teams' second best player", let's discuss Hinrich on a purely hypothetical basis.

I'm a big fan of Kirk Hinrich for a half-court oriented offense, and his ability to defend either backcourt position is extremely useful for this Rockets team, considering that with his salary, we'd need to get a minimum of 30 minutes a game from him, and some of those minutes would need to be alongside Aaron Brooks. I'm not particularly concerned with his shot; like many others have said, we've survived with much worse at the PG spot, and at his age, I find it hard to believe it's a physical problem (Ray Allen, on the other hand...). I am concerned in his leadership abilities however; in fact, for any point guard that replaces Rafer. Ostensibly, by adding Hinrich, you must trade away Rafer for salary reasons; you're replacing one of the leaders of one of the best locker-rooms with a background guy from one of the worst; that seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Contractually, it is a sizeable load, however, it is one of the few contracts in the NBA that decreases over time, so that by 2010 it's a more manageable $9 MM.

Concerning what it would take to actually acquire Hinrich, I would suspect a whole lot more than people are letting on here. John Paxson as GM has yet to trade any of his first round picks from the last 5 years; pretty much all of his deals have centered around getting rid of Jerry Krause's players. Whether it's pride or blind faith, I wouldn't bet on him breaking the streak (watch Ben Gordon and Luol Deng get fat extensions so the "core" can stay together).

Overall, I love Hinrich, but don't consider him a realistic option.

I think that Rose has to be the Bulls' pick. The NBA has become a guard-oriented league and Derrick Rose will be the most athletic PG in the league for years to come. Also he's a local kid from Chicago.

It maybe the best time to acquire Kirk Hinrich because he's had a subpar year and his trading value has taken a hit. An expiring contract like Bobby Jackson plus some draft picks may just get the deal done.

Hinrich would be a good PG for the Rockets. He knows how to run a team and does not take shots out of the offense. Last year Hinrich had a slow start but turned on later in the season. Hinrich also is a good one on one defender and a good outside shooter.

I would make the trade for Hinrich is the opportunity presents itself.
