IMO you've quit watching, at least objectively watching.

If Steve went into Yao every possession, and Yao took a shot every possession, Steve would be being a PG but would get almost no assists. Because once Yao had the ball in the post Yao would then create his shot, and if he scored their would be no assist.

Last night there was a play to Padgett, and a beautiful Pick and Roll with Maurice Taylor both of which involved Steve passing, and the Rockets scoring, but because of a dribble both times to clear space Steve got no assist.

Furthermore the offense is often set up where Steve passes to someone else who then passes to a scorer. That again means that Steve is being a PG but not getting an assist.

Previously Steve held on to the ball, or dribbled then would pass out to a teammate who might be open for a shot. This isn't running in as structured of an offense like good PG's should do but Steve would get more assists.

Stats don't tell the whole story.

That being said, Steve does need some serious work on his PG abilities.
