immigration question: canada to US

    is anyone familiar with k1/k3 visas? whats the quickest way to bring someone to the US?

    do the k-1 process and file, or do a marriage in canada and apply for a k-3?

    hope someone can help

    The K-1 (or fiance visa) is the only way to go. It will take 3-6 months to process this visa so make sure you get it well in advance of getting married. Don't hesitate or you'll get screwed.

    A K-3 requires that you get married first. Once married, it takes no less than 1 year to process this...all the while, your spouse is not allowed in America if married outside.

    You can get married in the U.S. and then apply for a K-3. But you got some splainin to do if you do this because your spouse needs to prove that they were in the states on a valid visa to begin with. Then, while waiting the 1+ year for the K-3 to process, your spouse shouldn't leave the U.S. or risk not being allowed to re-enter.

    As I said, the K-1 route is the only viable option.
