...would they understand each other? I don't mean to be racist, but I don't understand a word of what they are saying during interviews! Yao's accent isn't that bad, but Hakeem's is atrocious. I just thought of this the other day....and it brought on a chuckle... :D

On a more serious note, has Yao learned much from Hakeem's 1-on-1 tutoring the past summer? I have rarely, if at all, seen Yao incorporated any of Hakeem's low post moves in his own since then. One can contend Yao is doing quite well with his jump hooks, but that is arguably in large part due to CD's tutoring. Overall, Yao's low post game remains mechanical and predictable, lacking the spontaneity we saw in his earlier NBA career.

I don't think 2 overly publicized sessions are going to have that much, if any, of an influence. What we are seeing today in Yao's improvement is the brilliance of one Mr. Carroll Dawson.

Dream's English is actually flawless if you listen to him speak. He just has a very deep and raspy voice. Deke... sorry dawg, you on your own.

I think Yao's english is atually very good now. In the interview before the Milwaukee game his english was flawless. He's starting to sound a bit like Dirk Nowitzki now. English slang mixed in with foreign accent.

After the Rox got defeated in the playoffs last year Dream was in the locker room talking to Yao telling him to keep his head up and work in the off season to get better and stuff. They were having a hard time understanding each other. Dream kept having to repeat himself.

hahaha. i can imagine it. instead of trying to comfort Yao, Hakeem is causing him to strain his ears

Yao was quoted that he didn't have the quickness or athleticism to emulate Hakeem. I agree, can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. I don't know what spontaneity your talking about, the early Yao had no post game, 90% of his offense in his early years was that turnaround jump shot from 12 feet. That jump hook is becoming his money shot, I'd like to see some stats on how accurate he is with that shot but I don't think that is a stat that they capture.

How hard is it to understand the following:

    "Be dominant"

    "Be aggressive"

    "Spin, shoot."

"You have to believe you are the best"

if yao can converse with Deke everyday, should not be a problem for yao to understand Dream.

He's not doing the flashy fakes or anything, but I see a lot of influence so far this year. He's making turnaround jumpers and fadeaways like Hakeem used to. One game he received the ball in the paint, did a little shake to the right and faded to the left. It reminded me of Dream to an extent.

Also, he's facing up less and going to the middle more. Probably a CD influence as well.

Defensively, he's going for more blocks and generally seems to be taking on greater responsibility defending the basket. Wouldn't surprise me if Dream emphasized that in their limited time together.

Yaos english is understandable, and Hakeem's is perfectly fine, he just has a deep voice. with deke, you have a valid point, but with these 2, no real battle there...

why is this a thread in the GARM?

if u dont understand by now yao and dreams accent your crazy!! its pretty obvious that they would understand each other by now espacially how dream trained yao and gave him all that meaningful advice after the playoffs. what a stupid thread! this does seem racist to me. what do u expect from them? to lose their mother language just by living in houston for this many years? its not like that.
