I try all the crap like don't focus so much on the falling asleep, just focus on relaxation, breathing, fairly calm/neutral thoughts. What gives? I was ****ing tired today (around...2) when I went to take a nap, but after i'm in my bed for a few mins I'm suddenly awake. This is completely puzzling. How can I be tired when I go to bed (in a sorta dark room) and then it's like this sudden switch that says, no no ... don't do that because you'll actually feel better afterwards. This isn't the after lunch sleepiness or the tiredness that a lot of people experience around the early to mid afternoon hours, this is being tired as balls from a lack of sleep from my main sleep, lol. For what it's worth, I was doing some research via my sources in the pentagon today and discovered that caffeine's total lifespan is around 12 hours and it's half life of course is around 6 hours. Most mornings, I just have a 60 mg caffeine packet to mix in a water bottle and that's it. This can vary around 8-10 am , but then that's it. If I'm tired the rest of the day, I'm tired the rest of the day. I don't get it. 60 mg isn't a high amount of caffeine by any stretch and considering that's all I have for the entire day, it shouldn't be that much of a nap deterrent. Then again, it might not even be the caffeine that's the nap deterrent. I'm also aware of the properties of caffeine molecules that block adenosine receptors and thus prevent your brain from telling you you're tired. Yet, I'm clearly tired as hell according to my body and yet no sleep. What do you think fellow Clutchfans? Do I have the bubonic plague?
I've never been good with naps. Even the few times when I've (most often unintentionally) taken them, I always feel crappier afterward than I did before.
I call that being 'too tired to take a nap'. I get it after long trips. I'm exhausted and plop on my bed, but I end up watching tv for a few hours because I can't actually sleep.
Not to be too picky, but having a half life of 6 hours does not equate to a total lifespan of 12 hours. Back on topic, its not necessarily a bad thing that you arent taking a nap. If you lay down then you are all of a sudden awake, consider that you just saved yourself about an hour.
I'm having the exact opposite. After my car accident, or hell, even before, I'm tired as hell after every meal, especially after lunch. I usually eat quick while my boss is at lunch then take my "lunch" with my office door closed and an hour nap. I can drink a tall Red Bull and even sleep through it. Allergies are HELL this year.
you should try an alternative to the caffeine you take every morning. i'm no doctor, but maybe something natural that can give you the same energy boost will be better. for example, bring a bottle of green tea. pure homemade green tea (teabags) is preferable over the already made ones (sweetened lipton green tea). you can chill it overnight if you prefer drinking cold tea over hot tea. or take some ginseng, it's nature's alternative to caffeine.
lolol but seriously I love naps but try to limit them so I can get enough sleep at night. I can ALWAYS nap if I just lie down during the day but like I said it can be a curse sometimes.
that's interesting that you say that. I've been thinking for a while of trying to find something that's an alternative to caffeine. all caffeine does is tell your brain that you aren't tired for a few hours. I need something that gives you an energy boost but doesn't send you reeling into a crash after it wears off. I have some ginseng here. They are 650 mg a piece, would you know offhand what a good slug of ginseng would amount to? Says 1-2 tablets with a meal but I'm a little more tolerant of things than most people are.
Use half a caffeine packet. Then use the other half after you try taking a nap. Might take a week to get used to it.
That could work as well but I'm so tired with calculus and physics back to back in the mornings. There's not much of a chance 30 mg helps me stay awake through those 2 classes.
I've found that when I'm the most sleep deprived, I can take naps a little after drinking coffee. It's no substitute for the real thing. If you can last with just one dosage of caffeine per day, try spreading it out instead of drinking it in a short time span. Otherwise your body goes through withdrawals by the end of the night and you're hurting for your fix even more in the morning. It doesn't have to be a rigid schedule like drinking half. Play it scientific like and control your doses.
This above sentence is hilarious independent of this thread; but also completely accurate. Although taking a Sominex, Unisom, hot Ramen Noodles or a peanut butter sandwich with toasted bread before wouldn't hurt either.
