I've been looking into Volunteer work and I've always thought the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America charity would be great. I'm under 30 and single and don't party a lot so I'm finding myself with a lot of free time.

I'm the oldest of my siblings so I've done it in real life. I'm not perfect but I consider myself a person with values and a good work ethic. I'm good with kids (I think).

I just wanted your opinions or experiences in this Charity. Thanks.

I'd gladly take you to Weight room and see if we could work on your immaturity.

That sounds like fun. I was in Best Buddies in high school and college.

Another thing to consider is coaching. I coached football at my old middle school and basketball in a church league this past year. It was a blast. The football was a huge time commitment, but very fun. Basketball was an hour a week practice after work then a game on Saturday morning. Very easy and rewarding.

I've always wanted to do this, but never found the time. I think it would be very rewarding personally.

Just don't screw some kid up by telling him that Trevor Ariza is an example of a decent NBA player.

I was a Big Brother in Austin in the mid-1970s. It was meaningful to do. It sucked when I had to move away and leave that little kid alone... again. I was taking an elementary music class at UT. We had to buy a Recorder so I bought him one so that we could play them together; later I used to fantasize that he became a professional musician... :)

I'm also thinking of becoming a "Big." Problem is, I'm in my late 40's and I'm probably not going to grow much more, which makes me appreciably shorter than even Chuck Hayes.

Seriously though, go for it. Our society needs more people willing to give a little of themselves.

Cleverly disguised excuse to find young boys without Chris Hanson walking out.

I kid, I kid. From what I've heard, its an awesome charity. I say definitely go for it!

I'm currently a Big. It's been about half a year now. It's a good way to be there for a Little who needs guidance and a good role model in his life (notice I said his, because as a male you don't get a little sis). You end up hanging out about once every other week.

Just make sure you have no problem with taking time out of your schedule, because even though you're not in his life ALL the time, it is still a commitment.

Check out the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Houston's website at http://www.gobighouston.org/volunteer

It's definitely a rewarding choice. Good luck!
