Ever since I've been at UT all my friends listen to country music and its driving me crazy that I'm actually starting to like country music... Just for perspective I only have 1 country song on my ipod and its not even really country, "the devil went down to georgia."

Basically I'm looking for some good country music, something that has a semi-quick tempo and a good chorus. 2 examples of the type of country i like is:

    when it rains-eli young
    its 5 o clock somewhere-alan jackson.

    Oh and F Taylor Swift

Country music has always been negatively stereotyped. Its lazy music elitism. (I listen to anything, except that hillbilly "my wife and dog died" country). Country doesnt put up any pretense of being anything than what it is, music from the heartland, appealing to the common person about themes and subjects we all might relate to. Might have issues with the overdone "twang" and such, but I see nothing wrong with that.

A lot of old rock, iron maiden, acdc, stones, van halen, etc.
Some GOOD rap, no club ****.
I've been getting into techno some the past 8 months also

honestly if its uptempo and has a good beat and chorus i will like it, even if it has crappy lyrics.

    "Alt-country" isn't too bad.

    Example: Deer Tick

I'm sure you know about this site, but just in case you don't:

Go to www.pandora.com and type in either a song or artist you like. It will then search its database and give you some similar songs. Not all of them will be winners, but more often than not I get at least a few that I like when I'm trying to find some new stuff.

And my roommate used to be real big into Texas Country stuff like Eli Young Band. Try some Aaron Watson (3rd Gear and 17, Reckless), Randy Rogers Band (Kiss Me in the Dark), and Reckless Kelly (can't think of the names of any songs off the top of my head, but they were one of the bands he listened to that I remember liking).

I hated it until my senior year in high school. After 17 years of being around the stuff, it finally grew on me. Now it's all I listen to.

I got my country phase out of my system early.

I liked the stuff when I was like 10 years old.

Sadly, I still have many stupid Alan Jackson, Dwight Yoakum, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn or whatever songs pop into my head from time to time.

Try Hayes Carll. It's Texas music and has plenty of integrity.

Yup. This guy and Cross Canadian Ragweed were my roommates favorites. They are a little more "country" then Eli Young Band (which have a little pop appeal to their music) but are definitely great.

the only country singer I like is carrie underwood, she is great, much better than taylor swift, taylor swift is 80% pop and 20% country, so I think people should consider her a pop star, more than a country star.

    Carrie Underwood:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLeRBov9AoI song 1

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfy0j7g8h0g song 2

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8khHqMntkbQ song 3

Also I liked the Jewel country album, its called "Perfectly Clear" here it is the first single, she released this album last year:
