I know it's been said a million times but he might be done... However, I'm not the type that hated him last season for shutting it down. I understood what he was risking if he continued playing on that injury. I don't hate T-mac for what he did and I don't hate him for not being able to get out of the first round. Honestly I think it would be amazing if came back to the form he was in 07 playoffs against the Jazz. I would love to win a championship with him. How long has it been now? 5 years with T-mac? I want to win it with him. I don't want a one year rental winning with us and then cashing in a paycheck some where else.
Did you hate him for that one Toronto game? When he just stood near the half court line on offense? He gets the ball, he passes right away, someone shoots, we get the offensive rebound, and where is he? Still in the half court line. Plus there is a big chance he'll NEVER be in the 07 form. And even a bigger chance that he won't be available at the start of next season. Trade him. He's not worth the hassle.
wrong forum, everyone here won't stop when tmac gets traded, they'll want him to retire and suffer, the hate on this board has come to a point where it's out of control. you won't get much support, but i agree with you. i understand last season he played like **** and was a huge disappointment, but that doesn't erase that he's LED this team to the playoffs 3 of the previous 4 years before coming into this past season. only handful of players in the past 5 years have made an All-NBA team and finished within the top 10 of mvp voting, which is being courteous since it INCLUDES THIS SEASON... (Bron, Kobe, Garnett Dirk, Nash, Duncan and Wade). i'll give him one more chance, but yes, i'd like to see what we can do with tmac.
Well, Morey apparently likes T-Mac enough not to swap him for either Richard Jefferson or Vince Carter. So I think at least the Rockets management feels he can come back and have some sort of impact. For me personally, it's all about his health.

If I was earning the amount he made last season and I had to sit out because of an injury, even if it's fortuitous, I would've donated half my salary, at least, to charity.
People on the board underestimate the power of the contract year. Now that Vince Carter is gone, we should keep Tmac unless a really good trade opportunity opens up. Here's what happens if we wait for Tmac 1) he returns to 80% of what he was 2) he gets injured again and is out for the year 3) he plays like he did last year for the whole year I'm going to say that 3 is simply not happening, mostly because he's not going to allow himself to be embarrassed like that in a contract year. He'll get 'injured' just like last season before it comes to that. So it's just 1) and 2). Now both of those options have lots of value to us. If he's 80% of what he was, he would be an actual asset to us if we keep him or increase his value at the trade deadline: instead of Tracy Mcgrady's contract, we'd be trading Tracy Mcgrady, pretty good player on a short contract. If he's injured and out for the year, that would REALLY increase his value assuming that insurance kicks in. We would be offering teams not only cap relief for future seasons, but actual savings for 2009 as well. I know it sounds really bad, but the most value Mcgrady could have is if he's out for next year and insurance kicks in. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to keep him around and see how things go, we have until the trade deadline anyway.
what is your point, he shoulda foul him or something give it a break, it was one play and plus he was playing hurt the entire time. and plus we were getting blown out by like 40pts
yea because we're all just so self-righteous... I guess since we live in America and don't have to go through the crap that 3rd world countries have to go through... we should donate 1/3 of our own paychecks to them
Tmac is biggest mystery on this team now. We have NO idea what team he'll end up on or how well he will play for the team he ultimately ends up with. Personally, I still think he is far from being considered washed-up, but definitely can't get back to the form he was 2 or 3 years ago. At the very very best, he can perform like he did in the 07 08 season and 08 playoffs. If we can get that guy back, the Rockets would be in good shape. And then just to counter the Moon dunk video, here's this one... just trying to make it fair. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VJ3L0sYAcDs&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VJ3L0sYAcDs&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> go to 1:45
I understand your sticking up for what he's done for us in the past, but face it. He had MICROFRACTURE surgery. Very few people if any have come back from that at his age. And how old is he anyways? 38? Let me put it this way. Suppose he didn't have microfracture surgery. Say some other circumstance came up, like, he was in Iraq doing a promotion for Vitamin Water and got kidnapped by terrorists who then locked him in a cave for a whole year. He didn't play basketball, he didn't work out. He managed to make himself a mechanical suit to fly away in. Now he's back in Houston and ready to play basketball again, 100% healthy. You think he's going to be anywhere near the player he was before he got kidnapped? Heck no! He hasn't worked out or practiced for at least a year, possibly two years. That's what we're dealing with right now. Except that this T-Mac is playing on a gimp knee which he brought upon himself by electing for this surgery. He had to seek out orthopedic surgeons numbering in the tens or twenties to find one that would recommend it. So not only was he in the cave for a year but the terrorists took a bat to his knee while he was in there. And then they sent him to a surgeon that drilled lots of little cracks into his leg to allow them heal back up over the course of 18 months. You see what you're dealing with? You're not going to get the pre-cave T-Mac anymore. This T-Mac needs a mechanical suit that doesn't exist. He needs the will to bring himself back to the old level, and nothing in his life to this point has demonstrated that he has that. And that synthetic heart wouldn't hurt to have either.
"I haven't been the guy who's been fortunate enough to play with Shaq, to play with Tim Duncan. I always seem to have average teams,'' he said. "You take me back in my Orlando days with Shaq? Come on, there are no questions. You take a healthy me and switch me out with Paul Pierce [on the current Celtics]? There's no question. There's definitely no question.'' He has indirectly criticized his great teammates and jeopardized his leadership. In my opinion, he will no longer be the real hero he was supposed to be since the end of his season this time around. Especially after forcing Rick Adelman to hear about his missing the rest of the season through ESPN. He deserves to get kicked outta here for a trade that his HIGHLY beneficial for the Rockets.
I really don't get why people think this is such a big deal. I've seen hundreds of other plays by other players do similar things and not get called a quitter. The guy was playing on a knee that needed microfracture surgery. Playing while injured and failing at it does not equal quitting.
Same, but I'm slowly coming to the realization that it's not going to happen. And I'm still clinging to denial that it probably won't happen with Yao either. Whatever happens, I'll always root for any player that was a Rocket during our 22 game win streak.
Gotta say that truly brought me hope...There was flashes of brilliance in then his body would let him down...The Detroit game showed how Artest, makes T-Mac a better player, not by skill but by challenge. TBH at the beginning of this thread I felt like the op was a idiot (I somewhat still do lmao) but I see his point. The other poster brought up Insurance value in a worst case scenario....THERE'S HOPE!
