I'm a big time NBA fan (obviously since I'm on this board) but I cannot stand watching college basketball. Yes the defense is better but to me, the game just consists of them passing until the 35(!!!) second shotclock goes down and then a desperation 3. Maybe I need to watch it more?
Turn on the Michigan St./Tennessee game right now. If you can't appreciate the intensity of this game, then I don't know what to tell you.
I agree with this sometimes. It does depends on the style of play though. Their are some teams who play up tempo.
Sorry, man. We are all entitled to our opinions, but I can't relate to yours at all. I think the atmosphere of a college basketball game, especially come March, is way beyond that of the NBA. Of course the NBA should put out a better product- it's the cream of the crop, talent-wise. But I prefer the intensity and atmosphere of college any day to the NBA. And I loved the NBA more than anything else growing up.
Give me the passion for the game shown in college over the NBA any day of the week and twice on Sundays. These kids play for the love of the sport and it shows.
It can be difficult because the post game is so neutered. Its funny, you see amazing looking college point guards disappear at the next level and you get statistically marginal post players who explode. It is what it is.
i agree with you. once i saw a game and it was T-E-R-R-B-L-E. i dont remember what teams but there was absoulotley NO offense and NO defense what so ever so i never saw any college basketball again
I think it comes down to what style of play you prefer. If you like 5 man basketball, off the ball screens, and movement; the NCAA ball is where it's at. If you prefer iso's and incredible individual talent, then the NBA is the answer. I like em both for different reasons, but prefer the 5 man style.
OP, I certainly understand where you are coming from. One of the problems with college basketball is the product is so watered down because the best players leave after one or two years. Years ago, college basketball was totally awesome.
I remember making a thread like this a few years ago, college bball die hards didn't take too kind of it heh. I've been casually watching the tournament but that's as far I'll go.
To each their own. NBA, NFL, college basketball & football are my favorites hands down. It would be lovely if the Astros could make some noise though or it's going to be a boring summer. Edit: I forgot about the World Cup. I'm excited about that.
I love the Rockets & I like watching the NBA. However I enjoy watching the college game simply because of the officiating. It's so refreshing to see traveling & moving screens called correctly. There isn't all the "star" treatment in college that exists in the NBA. The NBA is almost becoming an exhibition rather than a contest.
I like watching college basketball because of the fast paced game but... some of the players have very poor fundamentals and because players are only on a team for a max. of four years and because there are so many teams(unlike the NBA which only has 30) I can never keep track of how individual players or doing
NBA players do it for a living, they play almost 8 times more per season... it's really not comparable. You can take a night off in the NBA and still get away with it because there are a number of factors that go into it... college is different, it really isn't tolerated.
It's easier if you just try and follow one team closely. Then you can watch that team and the other teams in their conference. Watch the big guys on Monday and Wednesday nights.
I don't see how anyone can say that if they honestly watched this tournament. Nearly every game has come down to the last few possessions and there have been many upsets. Butler is in the freaking Final 4. How about Northern Iowa over Kansas? St. Mary's over Villanova...who nearly lost to Robert Morris? Sam Houston State takes Baylor to the wire. This has been one of the best tournaments in recent memory. Maybe the year George Mason went to the Final 4 was up there with this one.
