I'm so conflicted, that I don't even know what forum to post this in...The GARM, Dish, here...Fantasy League.... Ultimately decided here because the GARM would turn it into a YARF...yet another rant fest. And the Dish would produce Spurs fans. OK, so here's my confession: I rooted for the Spurs tonight to beat the Knicks. They lost. How could I possibly root for the Spurs. There is no worst feeling than rooting for the Spurs, and then they lose. I could have been laughing at them, instead. Does this mean I've given up on the Rockets, and that all my hopes rest on the Knicks picks being as valuable as possible. What happens to your soul when you start rooting for the enemy? It's like when I feared Ricky Bobbie was done, and knew he had to hit rock bottom, so I rooted for Cal Jr to steal his wife away and get a new nickname.
Don't be conflicted. You are still just rooting for the Rockets, to be honest. I mean, if there were no Knicks pick to worry about, which directly affects the Rox, you wouldn't have been rooting for the Knicks to lose particularly. The fact they were playing the Spurs is incidental. You are absolved of your sins, now go throw three Hail Marys and stop touching your manuginobillis.
Not for me. Mavs and Dallas just make me laugh. Jazz are too many states away, but I'm not going to argue the point....fundamentally, division/state rivals first, Jazz second...then everyone else. I hate the Spurs because of their fans who don't even really like or know basketball...who continuously argued in the early days of cc.net that Robinson was better than Hakeem. They don't deserve a good bball team. If you put it to a city referendum, they would vote to trade the Spurs lock stock and barrel for the Cleveland Browns. Yet, they are going to sit there and deny Hakeem was better. I'm so conflicted for rooting for them the first time in my life. I so did not want them to ever win titles that I actually rooted for the Malone/Payton Laker's "Dream Team" to beat the Spurs,,,with blind faith that the Pistons would stop Malone from winning, but would probably lose to the Spurs.
I got an even worse confession that I thought I would withhold from Clutchfans forever. In the mid 90's, I loved Magic Johnson so much growing up that I didn't want MJordan to get more championships than Magic so I must confess, I think I rooted for the Jazz to beat the Bulls in one or both of the Finals they were in. I swear I felt horrendous after each finals and I can't even believe any part of me wanted that turd of a team from Utah to win a championship especially after they messed up our chance to meet up with the Bulls in an NBA finals for the first time. Just thinking about it disgusts me. What do I do?
I don't hate the Spurs. The 3 times I've visited the AT&T Center, all of the fans have been pretty respectful. The same was not for when I visited the American Airlines Center for a preseason game this year. Mavs fans were awful. I HATE the Mavs. I'll root for whoever they are playing. The Mavs fans I know personally I cannot stand. The same is not for the Spurs. Spurs and Rockets fans get along because of the shared hate for the Mavs. Plus, I hate Cuban. Confession: before I was a Rockets fan, I was a Spurs fan in middle school because the boy I liked was one. Not so far as to owning anything Spurs, watching the games religiously, or calling myself Spurgirl. I'd root for the Spurs over the Knicks anyways. It's not like Spurs winning will better our chances of making playoffs. They're in lock.
ferrari77...this video gives the ending version of the video in my opening post, with the most apropos quote...which is how I feel right now...and you probably did, too. Ricky quote: "Do you realize the implications of your actions, right now?"
man I was kind of excited when I saw the thread title and knowing the OP.. I was down for a 86 page megafest of poo flinging, and a possible 'ghost of popeye' sightings. Oh well. I guess I will work today. For some reason even though SA has won some championships lately I still look at the spurs as our little brother. At the core it's their lack of arrogance and overall unassuming nature. It's the anti Dalas. Even the New Braunfels boys aren't boisterous about the spurs. Also the way hakeem (or akeem depending on your mood) torched them and chomped on them made me always feel kind of sorry for them. Hakeems owning of David Robinson was almost carnal and mischievous on some levels. Like the whooping was almost unfair. I still kind of almost feel bad about that. Probably one of my watchable teams besides my scorned, love -hate,self mutilating relationship with the rockets. Spurs are like that hot chick you can bag at any time. Refreshing but for some reason just not as 'conflicted' and self depreciating enough.. face it you like pain... these guys don't raise the needle of heartbeats the same way rocks mischievous (yeah I know you are a rocket fan first) So with the spurs it's more a simple fan, of a team playing better, with likable guys. They happen to be from texas and not dallas. that doesnt hurt.. I'm okay with that
that's pretty shabby. I rooted for the Knicks because I hate the Spurs, will never cheer for the spurs unless they play the Lakers or Heat....hell, I'd rather the Heat beat the Spurs. Hell, I like it when the Jazz beat the Spurs.
I root for other teams all the time. Last night I rooted for Dallas to beat Portland. When the spurs play anyone in the west I root for them. This is my logic, we're not going to catch them, might as well let them hand loses to everyone else and keep them closer to our record so we can make a late push to catch them. Last year I rooted for the Lakers to beat everyone. It's not like you're rooting for the Rockets to lose to the Spurs, you still want the Rockets to win, you just want good pics as well.
If she's hot you can make it work. We should create a thread: could you date a Spurs fan that was also a stripper? That would be really hard for me to answer...
I used to root for teams that I would never admit to when I used to bet on sports. I also have no problems rooting for teams that would be beneficial to the Rox.
