So, recently, I got a speeding ticket in San Marcos. I decide to take defensive driving. This is one of the courts that requires that you turn in a copy of your DPS drivers record along with the certificate of completion for defensive driving. I got the record in the mail and the first line says: 09/27/98 DANGEROUS DRUG ACT OFFENSE - SHENANDOAH, TX I remeber the night clearly. I got pulled over for speeding on my way back to Huntsville from work in The Woodlands. It turned out that I had an unpaid ticket warrant and was promptly arrested. The officers searched my truck and found a pipe and nothing else. They added a ticket for paraphanelia (simple misdemeanor). How in the hell does than become "DANGEROUS DRUG ACT"? They make me sound like I'm some crackhead that mudered someone. I called the DPS to see what I could do to get that changed. They instructed me to call the Shenandoah Municipal Court. I called and, while they'd love to help me, they expunge all records after 5 years. There is nothing they can do if they can't even find what the original offense was. In other words, I'm freaking stuck with this on my record. Just needed to vent. Maybe I'll go smoke a rock and shoot someone. That way, the record will make some sense to me.
Believe it or not, that was randomly given to me when I signed up for AOL or yahoo way back when. Naturally, it kind of stuck with me.
leroy420, are you Fatty's duplicate CF.net account? If not you two should get together and console each other about how horrible the cops are and how they wronged you.
Oh, your only complaining about the discription? Well, it could say possession of pipe but that's not scary...
how much did that DPS record cost you? I'd like to see mine and see what it says, I also have a ticket for "drug paraphernalia" from Selma, Tx
I'd pretty much take anything but "Dangerous Drug Act". I'm not saying I shouldn't have gotten the ticket or that it shouldn't be on my record. I just think it should be a more accurate description of what actually happened. They found an empty pipe in my car, threw it in the field and gave me a ticket for it. I didn't threaten or kill anyone. I wasn't high or drunk when I was pulled over. I didn't sell anything to anyone. I didn't even have anything on me. I didn't fight the ticket. I took my punishment and moved on. Can someone please explain to me how that makes me a dangerous criminal? I think it was around $150 - $200.
Oops...misread it. I thought he asked how much the ticket was. I did defensive driving through www.ticketstop.com and it was part of the bargain. You had a choice of overnighting the competion certificate or a free drivers record. I think it's $10, though.
I think you're taking it wrong. You're reading it like it was a dangerous act involving drugs when it likely means an act with a dangerous drug. You're not going to get anyone in government to officially say that illegal narcotics are not dangerous.
leroy420, your offense violated the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972, Sec.13, therefore your record is correct. http://www.doh.gov.ph/ra/ra6425.htm EDIT: Sorry, that's for the Phillipines, but I'll check to see if the US has a similar law, I bet they do.
Here you go, the Texas Dangerous Drug Act. http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/HS/content/htm/hs.006.00.000483.00.htm So what's on your record is that your offense falls under the Dangerous Drug Act.
