After a few eventful years in San Diego, this native (Houston, Austin) is moving back to Texas. Tyler, Texas that is. It's a long story involving family and would not be my first choice. So, can any of you out there make me feel good, or at least informed about Tyler? Oh yeah, any local coverage of the Texans, Rockets or Astros? TIA
San Diego to Tyler, wow. Maybe you should make a documentary. East Texas is at least interesting and different. Enjoy the wilderness is my advice, good camping and hiking in east texas, not much else.
Sorry, but your moving to Cowboy country. Since the Texans are in the AFC you should be able to see all of their games but don't expect the local stations to cover anything more than blurbs about Houston sports in their news. I grew up around there and the only time I saw the Rockets play is when they had games on NBC. Of course we didn't have cable so you could be able to see more now with FSN but it will likely be the Dallas feed.
When I lived in the area a few years ago, the cable carried two I wanna say NBC channels. One was for Tyler, the other was Dallas. No idea why they did that but yeah it's Cowboy territory,
Wow, I feel for you. From San Diego to Tyler, Tx. The only thing Tyler's known for is Earl Campbell and roses. At least that's all I can think of. Umm... prepare to consider this move a failure.
Hope you don't drink much...it's a dry county. There's apparently some decent bars there now, though. My sister has lived in the area for over 10 years now. It's really not that bad a town. Decent restaurants, a couple movie theatres, and even if you don't like Dallas all that much, it is nice to have it 80 minutes away. Whenever I go up there, I see plenty of Astros games. Probably not all of them, but you'll see a good chunk of them. No luck on the Rockets since they're in the Mavs territory. Not sure about the Texans. I'm thinking it all depends on how good they are.
Thanks, bro.... You're a fountain of compassion I do seem to recall seeing some good looking women there at least - just can't think of much else other than outdoor water recreation. Rocketman, Tyler will have to extend it's dry area considerably to hold me down I wonder if there is any live music venues like we would be accustom to.
I was born and raised in Longview a lot of years ago. 1. The first thing you are going to want to do is become a Baptist, it's sort of required in Tyler. 2. Get used to girls with sparkly t-shirts, dyed bond hair and lots of hairspray. They chew a lot of gum. 3. Like high school football? Good, because there ain't no opera. 4. It's hot, like real sticky sweaty hot. 5.Get a truck, if your'e male and you don't drive a truck you are of questionable orientation. 6. But for the positive, you can find a real good deal on a used trailer and you can keep your bulldogs in the yard.
Welcome to Tyler. I have lived here all of my life. If you have any specific questions I will be glad to help. If you want to watch Houston sports, you need a dish. Rookie
Well, I think Tyler is two hours from Dallas, so you can at least get out of the sticks every once in a while...
1. buy the biggest HDTV from bestbuy (no interest for 2 years) 2. get DirectTV and NFL Ticket in HD 3. get a nice sofa you'll be fine!
It's about 10 miles south of I-20 about halfway between Dallas and Shreveport. From Houston, you can take 59 north to 69 north in Lufkin or take 45 north to Buffalo, then go up through Palestine. It's about 3.5 hours from Houston. It's approaching (or may have surpassed by now) a population of 100,000.
