    Or stupid, whichever.

I'm playing a game of pickup bball and I get matched up guarding this tall 6'6" 250+ muscle-y black dude. At least I think he was 6"6, all I know is my head came up to about his chest. Well anyway, I was intimadated at first because I had no idea how he played, and he looks like a monster. I ended up getting a feel for his d(lazy) and drained about 6 jumpers on him.

Then his team got the ball, and naturally, his teamates pass him the ball, tho he preffered the ball on the perimeter ... so he could get a head start to charge into my chest with his shoulder and put up an easy layup. So I adjust and start bumping him before he can get full steam and he starts b****ing, calling every little ******* contact. His team ends up barely winning because he's allowed to clear out people with his shoulder and travel all over the place.

Anyway, the crazy part: after the game I come back from drinking water and he's b****ing to one of my teamates that the only reason he travels is because I was fouling the **** out of him. I open up my mouth and everyone sitting in the bleachers looks at me like "dude, don't say ****.", but I do, I say I wouldn't be fouling him(and I wasn't even) if he wouldn't charging into me. Then he starts with this bs like he would only bump into my arm, then later changes his story to that I was never set on D(yeah sure, for all his power, that dude was slow as hell, couldn't get past me).

I rebutt his arguments, were both yelling back and forth, then he gives me a look like he wants to pop me in the face and throws out an "L" signal(how lame) and tells me to sit down. Then I said "for someone so big, you're such a ****ing p***y", and I threw down my ball and started to walk toward him. Luckily I have friends who knew enough to hold me back, or I would have been squashed. It was funny, everyone in the gym, even the other courts, stopped playing and was looking over, shocked anyone would talk like that to him.

I wanted to stay and play against him but the gym was closing. So I talked to a couple of guys on the bleachers and had my back turned to the game, and I guess he was dunking or something cuz I kept hearing him scream in my direction. Then I took off.

Anyone have a stupid/crazy moment like that? Esp even acting like you can take on a guy who you just know would whup your ass.

More times than I can count man...

It was just the other day I had these two guys that kept charging into me... then they had the nuts to cry foul on me when I was clearly established. Hell there own team was telling them they charged. Anyways, if it wasn't a church setting, we woulda been scuffling. I love adrenaline.

    :D

I had a similar "event" happen, oh about 20 years ago on a playground in Houston (damn, am I that old?:( )

Anyhow, this guy was talking trash and he wasn't even that good. He hit a couple of lucky shots to beat us in the first game, so the second game I guarded him and played him aggressive. He didn't like that one bit, so he started mouthing off to me. I fired right back and we almost came to blows (the other guys got between us)

As luck would have it, I had just purchased a new leather (indoor) Spalding Basketball and had brought it to the court (thinking no one would be there in the afternoon on a weekday). After our game was over, this guy went over and picked up my basketball and took it to his car, threw it in his trunk, and he and 3 of his buddies got in the car. I ran over and tried to tell him he had taken my ball. He turned the car off and all 4 of them got out ( I was going to die:eek: ) He opened his trunk, pulled a gun out and asked if it was still "My" ball. They all started laughing.

Needless to say I walked away, and have never played a playground pick-up game since.

I think that's the first time I've almost cried on this board [IMG].

You bought a new one since?

I used to get angry a lot; can't think of ONE specific incident.

Well, once I nailed all 5 shots in around the world in a row on my first try - - in the rain.

I beat my older brother and his friend.

    It's been all downhill since.

That wasn't crazy, but hey, it relates.

Yea i usually stay clear of people i think are little suspicious looking, cuz i know if i play to aggressive with them they get pissed and wanna fight. I mean i would love to go play them and show them they arent the best like they think they are but when i think it will turn up bad i usually avoid it.

Ah that's what it is. That's the word I was trying to find to describe how I felt to my wife. I would never do something like that outside a court. The rush guh guh guh.

Finn, that's crazy. I rarely play outdoor courts now, and when I do I'm looking out for myself(ie, take a ****ty ball, always know where my keys are). I'm just mistrustful by nature.

If you read my thread about taking my ball and going home you would know that something similar happened to me...I simply walked away thinking that the punk was not worth my time.

Reminds me of a story that really cut me down to size.

This took place in England where I was studying abroad my junior year of college.

First of all, back then Brits really sucked at basketball. (Think about it -- when was the last time you saw the British team at the Olympics. ;)

Because of the fact that I was American and could hit a 20-footer I was the first option on offense for our club team -- which kind of made me a marked man. (Believe me, I'm not a marked man in the US at 5'10", 165.)

So we're on the road playing this other club team and they're beating us handily. I'm getting thrown around and hacked real good -- they provided the refs, so anything went on their end.

At one point I end up tangled up with their center, who was a good 6'5", stocky, and probably missing a couple teeth. As we were running back down the floor I started giving him some gratuitous elbows in the gut.

The guy then looked down at me, laughed, and said, "Don't even think it mate."

Definitely not the intimidating effect I intended. Never felt so skinny in my life. :D

Okay, no real fight happened here, but it might've if a lot of my buddies hadn't been there.

I'm about 6 feet even and about 170 pounds. I play basketball for about an hour every day after school, and sometimes during lunch. I'm always the best defensive player out there, bar none.

So one day, I get out there 20 minutes late because I need to stop at the library. I get out there and there's this guy who I'd never seen out there before. He was about 6'4, 185, and he was significantly more athletic than me.

So he's scoring all over one of my best friends, and he's talking all this ****. Now, said friend isn't very good at defense (and he knows it), and he's a bit shorter and much lighter than me as well. He's a great shooter, but he's getting shut down because of the height advantage and the athleticism of this guy. So I yell at this guy to stop putting my friend down so much, and that he had a huge freakin height advantage, and he said I was being a wuss.

So I find another guy to play and we get in the game, and I'm guarding this guy. We play for another half hour, and he doesn't score once on me.

We play for an hour the next day, and this time I'm on him the whole time. He makes one layup when I was helping on someone else.

So we play the next day, and immediately he starts driving and leading with his elbow. He blatantly pushes me in the back on rebounds. He slaps my arms repeatedly when I've got the ball. Everybody else is continually going "uh... isn't that a foul?" throughout the game, and he keeps saying stuff like "oh whatever man, just play it." I shake my head and glare at him (I'm not into trash talking).

So after the game, he starts talking about how "you're not so good at defense now," even though I had never actually bragged once, I had only asked him to stop putting down my friend. So then I simply say "you do know you're not allowed to lead with your elbow like that, right?" Then like the first day, he tells me to "stop being a wuss." I ask him "why are you being such an *******? It's not like this game means anything, it's the playground. We're trying to have fun here."

He goes "what did you just call me?" I say "I was asking why you're being an ******* right now."

So the guy stares at me for a minute. Don't get me wrong, this guy could royally kick my ass one-on-one. But after he stopped staring at me, he looked behind me at my six friends, compared to his two. You had to be there, but it was obviuos that he would've tried to kick my ass if the odds weren't stacked against him. So he says "yeah right man, you're such a wimp," and he walks away with his two friends.

I think I got the last laugh, because we both know he didn't score one point on me when he played fair.

    first i read this.

and I wanted to say...so, you understand now why HeyPickup is call your own foul.

    then I read this

so...all I can say is that the group you are playing with sucks...this is just not allowed. If this is your turf then, the only advice I can give is what Bird did to Laimbeer.

    screw it...just bean him.

    get it over with.

basketball is just not worth that ****...you gear up all week or day to play...screw him

    get it over with...

laser pass right to the nose.

That's so wrong. I wouldn't be stupid in most situations, like involving girls, beer, conflicts, whatever, if it came to guns. That didn't make sense. I'm trying to say, there's a lot of times when it's good to walk away (and always safe), but when someone demeans your dignity like that (and steals your property), I believe you have the moral right (and legal right, because of the property thing) to NOT walk away.

Of course, that would be dumb because you could die, but that's why you should always carry a piece, b/c if I were you, they all would have been facing down on the ground before he ever got in his trunk again and the cops would be coming and I'd be pressing charges for him jacking my property. If he went for the gun, they'd all be dead. So, it's probably a good thing that you have good judgement...but man, I think there are some things worth dying for...and it's not really about the property, but the dignity is important.

I know it's dumb for me to write these things, but I really do admire people who die for principals that they truly believe in: God, Freedom, Dignity, The Greater Good. Woah, that sort of went off on a tangent.

Well, Finn, I'm just sorry that you had that horrible experience connected to the wonderful game of hoops. Wish it never happened to you.

It is not just HeyPickup, all pickup is call your own fouls!!!

Not if someone fouls you but if you foul someone, why is it when white line fever hits honesty goes out the window, if you don't know when you are fouling then you shouldn't be playing.
