Have any of you ever held one of these, this thing is great, I know that some of you may be against guns but there's nothing like this for protection. I am just awaiting for my background check to be completed and I'll have one. Are any of you gun collectors, if so do any of you have this, what do you think?
"ak-47...when you positively have to kill every last mother****** in the room...except no substitute."
Simply for home protection that is the reason for the purchase that and I am starting a gun collection.
Say what you want about German people, but they sure know how to make their guns! Although if you really want to get a manly Glock, consider the Glock 20. Fully automatic 10mm bad mofo. Of course, you'd probably have to travel to Syria to get one and you'd have to hide it from any type of law enforcement.... But seriously, good luck with your collection, just don't become one of those collectors who view their guns as a surrogate 'manhood'. There's nothing worse than some punk who 'uses' their guns to try and become macho. correction: Wait a second, the G18 is the full auto glock, not the 20, and it's supposedly a 'law enforcement' model, or am I missing something?
I am partial to the Glock 23 (compact 40 cal). But a friend has the 36 (subcompact 10mm). The 10mm ammo is a TON more expensive and harder to find than to 40 cal.
I still have my 19 from my days with the PD. Shot a .357 with .38 controlled expansion (hollow points) for years but when Glock surfaced, I was changed forever. Good shootin'!
Why don't you just hide little pockets of anthrax spores around your house? The safety percentages around your place may improve.
My assessment is purely based on the novelty of the rare 10mm ammo, for which I give it style points for it's arcane nature. As one who only observes from a distance, practical matters are trivial. Also, while I'm sure the compact & subcompact are more functionally useful guns, IMHO the 'signature' Glocks are the full-size guns with the big 'ol squared plastic polymer slide assembly, the large capacity magazines, the notorious reliability, and some of the thought put into details of construction are what make Glocks impressive feats of engineering as well as quality craftsmanship. Finally, I found it intresting that they use the 'c' designation to denote their 'compensated' exhaust venting system where they put exhaust ports on the top of the barrel to reduce recoil (img below). I'd be intrested to know any practical downside of this system is, if anybody happens to know...
Fatality rate for attempted suicides involving firearms: 83% - Public Health Association Of New Zealand Fatality rate for people who contract pulmonary (inhaled) anthrax: 95% - Kansas State University Dept of Engineering It is therefore safer to shoot your self, than to attempt to recover from inhaled anthrax... I find it intresting (not that this is germaine to your post, but rather it lead my thought to this) how people tend to latch on to certan forms of dangers, while ignoring others. I particularly am struck by the dichotomy between gun control advocates who smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, and anti-tobacco people that own guns... Just a thought...
Why can people buy hand guns? What are they good for? it is a little harder for some ******* to walk into a public place with a rifle and not be seen. there should be no handguns!!! I understand hunters and why rifles are for hunting but why handguns. Maybe its unrealistic but I feal much safer in the U.K. knowing that it is not very likely that some nutcase wont pull a gun and shoot me. I wish that there were no handguns because they aren't any good for anything. Im sorry in advance for upseting people, and i know im in Texas but this is the way I feel and maybe someone has a reasonable explaination for hand guns but I dont think so.
Not very upsetting...it is a lively debate here so you are not saying anything new. In a nutshell, gun advocates say the 2nd amendment protects almost all aspects of gun ownership, including handguns...gun control advocates disagree.
Why not? Because "guns kill people???!!!!" I have news for you...PEOPLE kill people. Personally I like to take my Makarov out to the range and put holes in paper for an hour or so. I own several handguns...and I haven't killed anybody. Wierd, huh? How about box cutters? Does it surprise you that 9/11 was carried out without the use of a single handgun? That's right...the worst violent act in US history was committed without a single handgun. Again...wierd, huh? Does it make you feel better to know that the same nutcase will just knife you instead? Anybody (not necessarily you...but ANYBODY) who wants to take my handguns should consider coming to my house armed. Most gunowners are willing to fight for their rights.
1. When I really briefly worked for a store in St.Louis in the worst neighborhood around, in addition to the bulletproof glass that was installed because somebody tried to rob them with a shotgun at one point, we used to have a little snubnose .38 in the register, where a rifle wouldn't have fit. To me, that seemed like a fairly good reason to have a handgun. 2. My girlfriend used to own a handgun when she lived alone in order to protect herself from anybody that might break in. Whether it would have been usefull or not, I question, but the bottom line is that the presence of that gun made her feel safe in a way that a rifle wouldn't have. I, on the other hand, have seen the statistics regarding home defense, and knowing her, I am not sure that the gun actually added to saftey in this instance. She agreed to get rid of it when I moved in because she didn't feel as nervous. The reason that handguns in particular are kept around is for defense. Home defense, armed security guards, police, etc. Whether you want to argue about their effectiveness really doesn't matter. Handguns are more suited for personal defense than other types of firearms. For this reason, as long as guns are legal, I assume that handguns will remain legal, right or wrong. There is a strong self-deterministic/frontier mentality vein running through the culture of the United States that I think will ensure that guns will most likely remain largely legal in the US for the forseable future, IMO.
Amen my brotha!!! This is my kinda thread, hmmmmm...I have a Glock 23 in .40 cal. with 3 L.E. magazines (13 rounds) - don't tell!...It is my favorite from the others I own...Ruger p-97 in .45, S&W 5943 in 9mm My latest project is accurizing my Remington 7400 in .30-06 to be a bad-ass battle rifle...Just add 10 rd. mags, send it to: accuracysystemsinc.com , get the harmonic-stabilizer barrel, pistol grip stock, Harris bi-pod adaptor...then add night vision capabilites (option, but I would) and you have one helluva weapons system for the money...
