I'm buying stock in the Houston Rockets. Right now. The panic in here over Yao and the other injuries is completely out of control. The cries for tanking, barlely a quarter of the way through the season, are preposterous. We're 10-5 in games with McGrady. We still have him. We're three wins away from a .500 record with three-quarters of the season left to play. The Rockets, to limit expectations, always give high estimates of how many weeks a player is likely to be out with an injury. We have a survivable schedule till Mutombo returns. I'm betting Yao will be back earlier than predicted. The other guys who are out with injury -- we were already winning games without them. As they return, our odds of winning each game will improve. We're not going to tear up the league while Yao's out, but we're going to survive, and we'll be there when the playoffs start, with our healthiest roster of the year. Meanwhile, I'm buying every share I can. You can't beat these prices.
I'm gonna wait till the Rox lose a game, the stock will be even lower as for the rest of what Will said, ditto.
I will buy the Rockets stock when it gaps down when it opens next time. All the bad news are out and the stock cannot go down much more from here...unless TMac is also out. Then you can talk about tanking for the season and gearing up for the lottery.
If we can play .500 ball with Yao out then I think we've got a great chance to make the playoffs. I think it's possible. Even with Tracy out, we were in almost every game, but we just couldn't finish. With T-mac I think it's entirely possible that we'll be in almost every game, and T-mac will be able to finish half of them.
I'm not sure how much inside scoop you have access to being the part of the "clutch crew" but if you could shed some light on some possible moves CD will be making that would be great. Is that Swift for Richard Jefferson deal a legitimate trade speculation?
I've got a feeling that somehow this team will pull it together and become even tougher like in the year where Hakeem went out and Kenny Smith and crew went on a 15-game tear.
You're high. That's not stock, it's lotto tickets. We are 23 games in and 10/13. No Yao. No Sura. No Deke. No Barry. No Alston. No DA. What do you have ? Tmac and Luther Head. That's it. The rest are guys that suck and scrubs. You can't add enough pieces to fill all the holes. Even if you do, you have no future. Why lock us into this supporting cast ? Now is the time to cut bait and chum the water. We can go for the big fish again next season. Trade the supporting cast now and get a lotto pick. Antonio Daniels would be a better fit than Alston. Othella Harrington is playing better than Stromile Swift. Maybe we can do even better than that.
whats the stock symbol? im gonna hold off wanting to tank until the end of february. if we aren't in the playoff race by the end of that month then the season is over. check february's schedule...if we can't get it together with that kind of g.e.d. schedule then we deserve to be in the lotto. but right now it's stupid to throw away the season. we are only a few games out of the playoffs. if we can just play .500 ball and maintain that distance from the playoffs we will surely make a surge as soon as yao and the rest of the team get back.
Find all the reasons you like to long, I am shorting it. Seriously, some ppls say Celtics is publicly traded?
Between now and Jan. 18, we only play 2 games against teams with winning records(Golden State and Cleveland). 13 games. Total record: 110-189 All but 1 game (CHA) from Jan 18 through the end of January is against teams with winning records. 8 games. Total record: 109-77 It is very possible to go .500, if not better now through Feb 1st.
I don't normally cross post, but... Regular Season goals, in order of importance: 1) Make the play-offs 2) Have a healthy, rested team that is peaking at the END of the season ... 3) about 2 months with most of the team intact ... 4) High play-off seed Just give me 8th seed (well, maybe 7th ) w/ a healthy TMac, Yao, Sura, Wesley, DA, Alston, Howard, Stro, Barry, Deke, Head, Bowen in April.
It's good to see some optimism from you Will. It is almost like this season hasn't started yet. The added parts, when healthy, should over time congeal. But I'm not so sure right now...
I think so too. I brought this point up in the Yao is Hurt thread. I'm not saying we're a better team without Yao, that's silly. But....we can be more athletic and run the floor more. You're right about the year when Hakeem went down, and that's exactly what I thought of when I found out about Yao. Everyone predicted the worst back then (like now) but we went on a winning streak because the offense was more balanced. I'm buying now too. See my sig.
If we can beat teams like NOK, TOR, ATL while Yao's out and steal one here and there like the laker game, we will be fine.
