i would GLADLY welcome Yao!! particularly if we could come up with our own form of revenue sharing....

not sure the ceilings will be tall enough for Yao!

oak park trails off of mason road...

this is our first home purchase...has me a little nervous...my wife is now staying home with our son (so we lose that source of income) and i'm buying a home all at once!! exciting, though...my son needs a backyard to play in! i could live with an apartment forever...but i'd rather my son have a yard of his own to play in...and a cul-de-sac to ride his tricycle in!

Save yourself a lot of time and just do a search for all of Old School's posts. You'll find all the answers there. :D

    Max,

My advice to you is to get out there about once a week and take some photos or just get an idea of what is going on with your house. If you have a digital camera put it to use. If you can catch something wrong (not that you will) early on it'll save you a lot of trouble later. I would often come out to my house near dusk after the workers had gone home and walked through to see the work in progress.

And don't forget to have the home inspected top to bottom...not by one of their inspectors but an independant inspection service. They will teach you more about your new home than you can imagine.

    Best of luck.

Also, here's a site worth checking out:

    http://www.hadd.com/

Not to scare you, but it'll open up your eyes to some home building horror stories. I learned a lot and went into home buying well informed through sites like it.

RM95 - yeah, i thought about that this morning when i posted that...any good little restaurants out there (not chain places) that I should know about?? every community in houston has a good tex-mex place, right? a good burger place??

old school -- wow! thanks for the info!! i really appreciate that. very kind of you.

giddyup -- yeah..i'm working on making sure Yao is around for training camp...unfortunately his new room at my place won't be ready until January...damn!! :)

oh, yeah...and if anyone needs any legal work done (that they're willing to pay for!!!), please let me know. my understanding is that this whole endeavor may cost me a little money...imagine that! :D

Man, it's been 7+ years since I've lived there, so I couldn't tell ya. Actually, in Old Katy, there's a little taqueria at Ave. D and 1st St. that I remember to be really good and last I drove through (Father's Day) was still there. I'm actually an Old Katy guy, never lived off Mason.

yeah...i figured it had been a while...i'll try the taqueria, though...my brother and his family just built a house out in cinco ranch, so i'll have family close by. plus, the rest of my family still lives in the memorial/dairy ashford area...not exactly far away! :)

I'll ask my brother...he's still in Old Katy. The problem is that they're vegitarians, so I don't know how much they eat out.

I went to Forbidden Gardens in Katy yesterday (off Grand Parkway and Franz).

It was pretty neat. Minature replicas of the Forbidden City in China and life-size statues of ancient chinese warriors.

Yao would probably enjoy a visit there.

Max, there is a great fishing hole in Katy. Make sure to stop by it with your kids...
