If you are a fanboy or just a fan, this is damn good news. Superman looks like it is headed for Crapsville with McG worming his way back into the Directors chair yet again, but at least the Dark Knight will get the film treatment he deserves. Christopher Nolan directing and now the American Psycho himself as Bruce Wayne/Batman. So, who has seen Equilibrium?

OFFICIAL: CHRISTIAN BALE IS BATMAN!! Source: Warner Bros. Pictures Thursday, September 11, 2003

Warner Bros. Pictures has provided Superhero Hype! with the official press release announcing the casting of Christian Bale as the next Batman!

CHRISTIAN BALE CAST AS BRUCE WAYNE IN WARNER BROS. PICTURES' UPCOMING BATMAN MOVIE DIRECTED BY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN

BURBANK, CA, 11 September 2003 – Christian Bale has been cast in the starring role of Bruce Wayne in Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming Batman movie, to be directed by Christopher Nolan and produced by Emma Thomas. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of production for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Principal photography on the film is expected to begin in early 2004. The movie is written by David Goyer and Nolan, and will follow the early career of The Dark Knight.

Said Nolan, "What I see in Christian is the ultimate embodiment of Bruce Wayne. He has exactly the balance of darkness and light that we were looking for."

Robinov stated, "Now that we've found the best person to play Batman, we are really looking forward to moving ahead with the rest of our casting, and are excited about the exceptional group we are assembling."

Bale, who first drew critical attention for his starring role in "Empire of the Sun," has starred in such diverse motion pictures as "Little Women," "Portrait of a Lady," "Metroland," "American Psycho" and "Laurel Canyon."

Let us know what you think of the casting on the SHH! Boards!

Meanwhile, Ain't-It-Cool-News is reporting that Ra's Al Ghul will definitely be the villain in the film, though there may be a small part to be be played by the Scarecrow. Also the film will have a good deal to do with London this time out, says the site.

[IMG] I'm Batman. . . with a beard and oil rubbed on me made to look like sweat. I kicked ass in Reign of Fire even though it wasn't a good movie. I blame that pot smoking Texan.

I was hoping it would be Jude Law but Bale is good too.

Bring back Michael Keaton and Tim Burton with his team. Then we'll see how good Batman can be. No more stupid Robin. Urgh...hands up if you think Joel Schumacher ruined the series...

Keaton was a great Batman, but he was a terrible Bruce Wayne. Give Bale a chance.

agreed..i'm not saying keaton should still be batman...i'm saying i would have rather them found a way to get him to return to the role for the 2nd and 3rd installments of the series.

having said that, i'm not sure that would have mattered..the scripts and storylines for those sucked.

Bale is probably a good choice, but I was hoping Guy Pearce would change his mind about the role and sign on.

I have faith that Christopher Nolan can make a good Bat movie, and I'm sure he'll get a very good performance out of Bale.

I'm satisfied they finally casted the next Batman but the news of Ra's Al Ghul being the next villain is even more exciting. I haven't seen any other movies with Bale in them but I most likely will check some out now.

Pardon my lack of comic book reading, but who is Ra's Al Ghul?

especially with having a solid villain, if they do it right, it should be alot more atmospheric and dark and less of a circus.

ra's al ghul is immortal and his daughter talia is a love interest for batman, who in my opinion rivals catwoman as far as chemistry with the dark knight. the 13 year old in me is pumped
