Ok, here is your chance to go on record with who you think we should have drafted. The draft is now over and we now know several things that we could not know before the draft. ** We know that the Rockets tried to move positions and there was nothing really available to us. ** We know what players were actually availabele at our slot. ** We know who is easy to sign to a contract and who would be more difficult. So with these facts now in tow, who would you have chosen? I keep hearing people say how poor of a job the Rockets have done with drafts, but hind site is often 20/20. If you dislike the choice of Head, go on record now with who you think we should have chosen. In a year or two (or three or four) we can see how good you are. Maybe somebody will run a thread like this every year and over the course of a few years we will see who amoung us can actually rate talent. And speak up. No wiggle words please (ie, I wish we could have gotten Ike). I am looking for some future Clutch moments here. For bonus points - a lot of people say how good a job San Antonio has done of finding good talent at the bottom of the draft. We know who we picked and we know who SA picked (and the fact that they are "training" him overseas for a few years (which they have done before with success)). Right here, right now, would you trade our the Rockets decision for the Spurs decision?
I would've chosen Wayne Simien. He may have health risks and wouldn't be able to contribute right away, but for the future potential he's hard to pass up. Turiaf will merely be decent backup. I like the head pick, though. Hopefully, he pans out.
Simien and Stoudamire. I am hopefull with Head but yes I would take either of those two 1st. (BTW I saw Turiaf and Lee enough to say I'd take Head over them. Taft I have not see enough to form an opinion either way.) No, I don't want the Spurs pick. Off topic: but here is a bonus: I predict the Knicks with Frye and Robinson will be the most dissappointed with their picks relative to position.
Get Swift, Damon Stoudamire, B. Simmons Get rid of Wesley, Sura, Moochie, Pagetts, Vin Bakers, Weatherspoon Yao/Deke Swift/JHoward Tmac/Bowen Simmons/MJames/? Stoudamire/?/Ward Van Gundy uses a short rotation anyway so 8-12 wont really matter.
Great idea! I'd love to go back to this in a few years and see how our predictions pan out. The players I were hoping would fall to us before the draft were Ike Diogu, Jarrett Jack, Julius Hodge and Francisco Garcia. During the course of the draft when guys like Granger, Green and Graham started falling, I hoped they'd fall all the way to us. They didn't. By the time the Rockets picked, all of the players I really wanted were off the board. Were it me, I probably would have chosen Wayne Simien or taken a gamble on Chris Taft. However, the more I've read about Luther Head the more confident I've become that the Rockets picked the guy most likely to contribute to our team. I'm looking forward to reading this in a few years - after it's become more clear what kind of player each of those I mentioned have become/are becoming.
out of everyone: chris paul at our spot: wayne simien possible if trade up: danny granger 2nd round steal: ryan gomes
Me too. I really wanted to get Hodge out of this draft. I think he will be a star. But he wasn't around. I'm as happy as possible with Head. I think he was a good pick. I would have probably tried to explore and exhaust trade possibilities. I'm sure CD and JVG did that. Maybe we are gonna trade Head, Juwon, and some picks and expirings to Detroit for Rasheed and Arroya?????? Might as well dream.
I hope Head pans out, and all we have heard seems to suggest he will. But I will go on record as saying I would have preferred Simien. First, he fills a bigger need (no pun intended). I also believe he is more NBA ready (eg Head has to be converted into an NBA PG). Sure, Simien has had injury concerns, but right now our PF is recovering from an injury and an heart prob. And the backups are Weatherspoon and Bowen.
I believe, Pat, I am on the record in other threads as to my feelings about drafting Head. No wiggling -- just some "wishing, hoping, planning and dreaming" (no offense, Dusty S). NewRoxFan: I hope we don't require a Head pan for all the missing and poaning we will be doing if he doesn't deliver as the board's optimists expect. Simien Boosters: I'm am happier with Head than the oft-injured, smallish Simeon. I would have preferred Chris Taft, Andray Blatche or Roko-Leni -- all talents who could have helped us somewhat this coming year and mightily in years to come.
The more I read about him, the more I like Luther. But, if I'm choosing as a fan, without all the scouting reports that the real GM has, I would've traded down for a couple of 2nd round picks & picked up Andray Blatche(PF/SF) & Dijon Thompson(SG/SF), or possibly Lawrence Roberts(PF).
Do I get to see the tapes broken down and the individual work outs before I weigh in? Do I get to see the pre-draft camp work outs and games? Do I get to see medical reports? Without those minor bits of data how could I know? From what I know, from what little hard data I have, I'd take Head. I take the wiggle room.
first off - this is agood thread idea anyway, I did not want them to take a PF in the draft, I think you fill that need in free agnecy and you add backcourt depth in the draft. from what I read, and know the teams needs and JVG's style, I would have drafted With Garcia and Jack off the boards (and Miles and Blache still too raw) I would have taken... ...Luther Head (see my pre-draft posts if you don't believe me that I called this pick)
How much have you seen of Taft, Blatche, or Roko-Leni (Blatche and Roko-Leni in particular)? Did you take a trip to Europe to see Roko-Leni like CD did? I wanted Garcia or Warrick badly. Neither were available. I like the pick of Head as a pick that contribute quickly and has more potential to blossom.
from thumbs: Ah man, whipping out Dusty: You do have hope! That's what most of us wanted to hear. I've always respected your posts. "You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand".
That was Luis Flores, if I'm not mistaken. If I was GM, I probably would have traded out of the first round, tried to pick up two seconds. Unfortunately, knowing how JVG doesn't like rookies, I think the Head pick would be best.
