EDIT: Houston water pumps are working again, according to a press release reported here in Dallas on WFAA.com at 10 PM 9/13/08.
(I removed a non-essential post to allow this info to be near the top of the thread.)

But the request is still officially "boil your water" before using for consumption.

Good idea, especially with all the people running on laptops and phones because of the power outages.

Below is a link to traffic maps and cameras, although the cameras are down right now.

    STAY SAFE!

Do not approach downed power lines, they may be live! The power company wants you to report downed lines only... they know power is out.

Well I can't take credit for the first two link ideas in here...

Can any moderate (with their power on) please sticky the Ike threads? I'm sure with the boredom of today the other threads will start to bump them around...

Best bet is to try and call from a local phone book and check place by place... I cannot find any database on this sort of thing aside from this thread----> http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=3898724#post3898724

Reports are that some Waffle Houses and Denny's or IHOP places are open, but it has been called into question how they can operate with current water restrictions. So be careful... If you have power, and can get your own supplies from a store that may be open, cooking at home may be best... but most cannot do that right now.

Be sure and boil your water to kill off microbes, as the sewage lines may have contaminated drinking supply.

And keep looking here to find help, or post more helpful data.

Go to your favorite search engine and look for a store locator for a list of locations near you. Then call the phone number and see if they are ready to serve you.

Obtaining electricity will be key for those stores to be open. I don't think that Centerpoint and others are making firm promises to the retailers, so the retailers will have to take it on a location by location basis.

HEB is bringing additional staff from Austin to help reopen stores.

HEB-Hurricane Ike Update shows which stores are open and closed.

    http://www.heb.com/aboutHEB/media-PR-Hurricane.jsp

You can also call the HEB Emergency preparedness hotline for store reopening updates. Please text the cell phone number to your friends and family that do not have internet access. We have to pull together.
