This is just stupid. If I joked and said Abraham Lincoln ran a gas station in St. Louis, I guess I would be guility of racism against caucasians.

Am I the only one that didn't know that Indians working at a gas station is a stereotype?

If she stuck to Clinton jokes, she's be okay.

If she had said "Quickee Mart" then we'd have something to talk about.

If Trent Lott had said this the dems would be ALL over it.

IMHO it is just bad taste, nothing more....

However, it sure shows the double standard doesn't it?

I think this is political correctness coming back to bite Hillary in the @ss.

It was a bad joke but she quoted Gandhi in admiration even though she introduced him with a joke. This isn't the same thing as making fun of someone purely for a juvenile laugh like former NY Sen. Al D'Amato did when mocking Japanese-American judge Lance Itoh.

I'm not a big Hillary Clinton or political correctness fan but maybe this will be a wake up call for her and others to lighten up.

Bad taste? Double standards? You mean like yours?

I thought racial stereotype humor was funny, didn't you start like 3 or 4 threads about how "Ghettopoly "was so damn funny?

    No doubt.

I don't get the "double standard" critique here. Isn't this front page CNN stuff, for a gas station comment? She's being criticized (duh, her name is Clinton), so what the heck is the double standard here?

I said it was bad taste, nothing more....it doesn't bother me.

I think Ghettopoly is bad taste too....

Doesn't mean I want anyone fired over it, just think it is funny how the double standard works.

I don't have an issue with any of it......but others who criticize ghettopoly sure don't seem bothered by this....and why not?

    Isn't it the same thing?

Neither one IMHO is that big of a deal, but it is shocking to see some people all over one and then because their ideology is the same as someone else they give them a free pass.

Indians working at a gas station is a stereotype? Really?

I thought everybody was pissed because she made a crappy-ass joke about the most amazing spiritual leader since Jesus Christ.

    I'm naive, I guess.

I am bothered, more because Ghandi was such an amazing dude. I still don't get how the gas station thing is a stereotype... it just seemed kind of disrespectful somehow.

The odd thing is that her attempt at a semi-racist joke didn't even work on racial grounds. It's like an "oh, you know those poles, always playing croquet!" type of joke.

In fairness...her comment was made in a speach of admiration for Gandhi. And she has spoken out several times honouring him.

I don't think the NAACP would be as quick to rationalize Ghottopoly as the director of the Gandhi Institute was to cut a bit of slack to Hillary.

I agree with Giddy here. She should have stuck to Clinton jokes.

And that, I agree, is the her greatest act of stupidity here.

I guess she'll be making those oh-so-funny Martin Luther King jokes next month.
