I thought this was a pretty good list. Film buffs may not like the exclusion of Buster Keaton, Chaplin, or Marx Brothers. Of more recent movies (80s on) excluded, I would have included There's Something About Mary. http://movies.ign.com/articles/674/674712p1.html For people that don't want to click through: Spoiler 1. Ghostbusters 2. Airplane! 3. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 4. This is Spinal Tap 5. Young Frankestein 6. Raising Arizona 7. Annie Hall 8. Caddyshack 9. National Lampoon's Vacation 10. The Jerk 11. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy 12. Blazing Saddles 13. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 14. A Fish Called Wanda 15. The Big Lebowski 16. Some Like It Hot 17. Dr. Strangelove 18. South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut 19. The Princess Bride 20. The 40 Year Old Virgin 21. Shaun of the Dead 22. Groundhog Day 23. Beverly Hills Cop 24. Rushmore 25. Animal House
Love Ghostbusters. Favorite Ghostbusters scene: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cDQk4lGSEJQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cDQk4lGSEJQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I'm sorry but scary movie 1 and dude where's my car should be on there. Shimmy!!! Or road trip. Or American pie
Maybe. This is what they said they considered in making the list: [rquoter]Our think tank put aside our love for movies like Weekend at Bernie's and Houseguest to bring you a list of comedies based on their popularity and longevity with audiences, their impact on the genre, laugh-out-loud factor and quotablity. To help us settle on a few tough calls, we fell back on and that ol' get-out-of-jail-free card, editor's choice. [/rquoter]
I never saw The Jerk, but I didn't find Mash, Tootsie, or Galaxy Quest particularly funny. Maybe from a "cult status" or quotability standpoint?
That's what I mean. These lists can be fun and interesting I guess, but everyone has different tastes and likes. I've always liked The Sting, and The Apartment, and Waking Ned Devine, but others would not. Oh well, it's just a list.
Your right. It should be viewed as the greatest movie in any genre. Ghostbusters is everything that is great about cinema.

I love Princess Bride, but now way I consider it a comedy..it's a romance with humorous elements. In fact you just need to have a separate list. Blues Brothers is a big omission. Waynes World? Tommy Boy? Eh maybe not quite the classics as others on the list...but classics in my book. And then what about Planes, Trains and Automobiles? Home Alone? I think there's way too many good comedies to condense it to 25.
I wouldn't have Annie Hall on that list, and definitely needs Something About Mary and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in there in their place. Not a BAD list, more like a grab-bag than a true ranking. At least they got Young Frankenstein in their top 5 (it should be #1 in my opinion). also, I think Artists & Models should be on that list somewhere (Prople may not remember it, but young Jerry Lewis was one of the most amazing comedic performers of all time). Plus, where's Silver Streak? Hanky Panky? Orgazmo? Hehehe 25 movies is not enough.
