This part was originally in the article but cut out later:
My internet connection has been acting up lately, so I haven't been able to follow this all that well. Apparently, they cut that part out at the request of their sources, who did not want to go to jail.

$229 is a little more than I would prefer, but better than the $250-$300 rumors (though the $300 wasn't really much of a rumor).

RC, compared to the PS3 and 360 prices, that's cheap!

You get what you pay for

The Wii isnt on the level the 360 and PS3 are, specs-wise, right?

Who cares about specs, its all about the games and Wii has the most interesting ones.

I'm still gonna get it because I can spare $229 versus $600 for a PS3.

But I'm wondering the same thing...does Wii have as good as graphics as PS3 or 360? RC?

If the specs being rumored are accurate, it will be more on the level of the original GC than the 360 or PS3. A few games I've seen seem to support that (Tony Hawk, Rampage, Sonic, etc.)

I realize that the Wii is much cheaper than the PS3 and 360, but I don't like the price they're asking for (well, the price in this rumor) relative to the specs. Considering that the PS2, Xbox, and GC all retail for less than $150 (and the PS2 and GC sell for profit) and have a lot of great (cheap) games, I'd want the Wii to be priced around there as well. They should still be getting profit around those prices (unless Nintendo just made some dumb design moves for some reason); if they wanted to go for the jugular, they might even be able to take a slight loss and price it at $99 (though the price on the DS kind of makes that ridiculous). Pricing it at $229 just makes it slightly less attractive than it could have been IMO (although again, things could be worse).

Of course, I'm assuming that the $229 Wii contains normal stuff for a console launch. Obviously, throwing in 2-3 controllers, a game, an SD card, free VC games, and/or some other crazy stuff would change my opinion about it.

they're just using rca for audio/video right? are they gonna upgrade to s-video even? i agree $229 is higher than i thought, but only by $29. im still heavily leaning towards this system.

There are no solid specs yet; just rumors and speculation. Don't most of these rumors point to be about twice as powerful as the Gamecube?

I expect anywhere in the 200-300 price range. 250 seemed to be what a lot of people expected, so 230 is fine. 200 would have been great but that's the optimistic end.

At 300, I would not buy at launch. I don't see the 300 for just the system to be likely, though.

I already have a 360. And the Wii isn't about trying to play the specs game. It will be a nice addition and should give me plenty of variety.

Yeah, the specs being posted are just rumors...it especially doesn't help when there are subtle differences every time as well. Still, the Wii games I've seen so far would seem to fit with the rumored specs. I can't really decipher them from GC games. If the specs were a lot higher, the games shown so far certainly don't seem to show it.

The rumored specs seem to have 2-3 times the power of the GC, but then the PS3 is like 100+ times more powerful than the PS2 (hard to say with the multiple processors and the ability to use vertex/pixel shaders which weren't possible on the PS2). Pretty much the same for the 360 as well. 2-3 times the power of the GC isn't very much.

The specs got me hoping that it would be maybe around $150 or possibly less. I figured $200 would be kind of the high end considering all their other consoles were priced around there (and they usually had somewhat state-of-the-art tech). $230 isn't that far off and better than $250-$300 (which I worried about lately), but a little more than I would have hoped. Not really a big deal though, especially since we don't know what all you get with that.

I still wish the specs would be a lot higher. The box would have to be bigger and probably use more power, but they could have easily put something together that would come close to the 360/PS3 graphics and they still would have been able to keep it around $200-$300. Considering the 360 has been out almost a year and costs $300 (for the Core), I'm sure Nintendo could have come up with something that had similar specs and was either the same price or a little cheaper. They may have had to take a small loss though, at least initially. That would have been the best of both worlds. :(

I wonder how soon Nintendo will be looking to make a price cut. MS and Sony will probably be pretty aggressive (MS because they've been out for almost a year and Sony because demand won't be there for long @$500-$600), so I wouldn't doubt it if MS was able to get the 360 core to around $200-$250 pretty soon (maybe around E3 if it is needed). I wonder if Nintendo will feel like they would need to lower the price to "compete" with the 360 Core SKU, or if they'll stick at ~$230 for a while (even if the 360 would be cheaper). I'm assuming that Microsoft's plans about the Core SKU being an asset at lower prices actually works (although if nothing else, you'd have a 360 Premium for $300-$350).

I think the price cut to 150 hurt the Cube more than helped because it made people think it was an inferior product that didn't even play DVDs. Who knows if Nintendo would launch another hasty price cut, but I'm used to game companies losing money on their consoles. It makes Nintendo look greedy, and no way will they lose money at 230 bucks. That they're trying to push 5 million units at launch makes it seem like they're projecting shortages.

The specs are very dissapointing. It's so bad, it's like thinking of horrible movies who's producers won't allow reviewers a sneak peak. They're forced to watch it with everyone else at release date.

I'm in your boat. I see the 360 as a "serious gaming console" and the Wii as a simple innovative fun machine. I think it's going to go for $249. I just hope it atleast has component outs...

The Gamestop down the road from me had a "Preorder your PS3" sign on the window. Don't know if they're still doing that, since it was last week.

Anyone know about a possible price drop for the 360? I would like to pick that up as well with a Wii if a drop is in the near future.

The GC has a proprietary component cable (extra cost), so I would assume the Wii would have one as well.

I think $230 is pretty damn good for the Wii, considering it's 74% less the price of XBOX360's $400 price tag and 117% less than PS3's $500 price tag. I'm expecting $250, so anything less is cake, as far as I'm concerned.

those are rumors and imo it wont' happen.

They'll come out with a new premium bundle for $399.

There is a new bundle that is about to be released in europe, that includes:
everything the pro (hdd, wireless controller, ethernet cable, ect), in additon comes with xbox market place points and SAINTS ROW.

so im guessing instead of a price drop. They'll keep it at $399 and add xboxlive marketplace points/ free 3month gold membership and a game....
