    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700068443/Utah-Jazz-Kyrylo-Fesenko-still-talking-to-Rockets.html

The 7-foot-1 center is looking to receive a two-year, $4 million deal from Houston. If that doesn't happen, the source said Fesenko will inform Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor that "they'll sign Monday." The fourth-year player has had a $1.1 million, one-year qualifying offer sitting on the table since June.

Free agent center Erick Dampier is now considering Houston and Milwaukee, a source tells FanHouse. Bucks only have minimum salary though.

    whoa.

since when did houston get so many big men to choose from?

normally its the other way around.

but given the circumstances, I'd pick dampier,

id love fesenko but he'd be matched.

I would like Rockets to sign Fesenko than Dampier...he's just a bigger taller body and create problem for people inside...JUST like Yao. Plus, taking him away from Jazz help make them worst off imo.

Fesenko's a lot younger and has more upside, but risky. You know what you're getting with Ericka but there's no way he can be a long-term part of the team's plans given his age.

I'd lean toward Fesenko because I prefer a gradual, building for the future mentality to a one-off "win now" mentality. I can see the argument for the other way though.

If not for the j*zz likely to match our offer I would sign Fesenko. The problem is we'll be matched for the 2 mil it would cost to get him. Otherwise, Fesenko would be a no brainer.

I would try for Fensenko, he is decently athletic and has much greater upside...if you don't get him, and Dampier signs elsewhere that is not that great of a loss.

I would go HARD for Dampier. He has more playoff experience and he could really help Yao and Brad Miller.

Fesenko, no question. This is pretty cool, it's looking like we're definitely going to get at least one of these guys, which means our center position will also be 3-ish deep.

Fesenko. But, Utah will match our offer. I heard he intended to accept Utah's qualifying offer, just for one year. Maybe we can land him next year.

If we try to sign Fesenko to something close to $4 million/2 years and they match doesn't that just mean the Jazz are paying $900,000 more this year and are locked up for $2 million next year. So I think its a good idea either way cause I feel like he'd be a better option.

I'd rather have Dampier simply because he's the better player right now and a proven veteran.

However if we can't get any sort of an answer from Dampier today, I think Houston needs to start working on a possible sign and trade with Utah. Fesenko may be plan B but its not set in stone that Erica will sign with Houston even with Miami out of the running. I'd rather get Fesenko now then potentially lose both of our backup center options.

Since the Jazz are likely to match a $2M/2-year offer, offer Fesenko $3.5M/3-year with the third year as a team option. This puts the Jazz at $72M team payroll, well over the luxury tax. However, if they get rid of AK-47's $17M salary in a Melo trade, they have lots of room under the cap and will match anything we offer. On the other hand, we must find some way to reduce our salary total -- probably by trading Battier or Jeffries for a cheaper SF (Wilson Chandler?).

If by "$3.5M/3-year", you mean $3.5M per season, that is impossible.

The most the Rockets can offer as a starting salary is $2.08M, and since it would require using the Biannual Exception, the longest contract the Rockets can offer is a 2-year deal.

To offer longer than 2 years, the Rockets need to use the remainder of their MLE. And that is only $1.365M.

Neither guy is going to be a long term contributor so go with the guy who's better right now. Dampier.
