It's that time again, I'm tired of my truck, and am in the market for a new vehicle. If you could buy any NEW car on the market today for a reasonable price (less than 45k), what would you get? I was looking into getting a 500 Series BMW, or a new F-150. Can't wait to see the silly car pictures you guys post.*
Well, I can't find a JPEG or GIF file of this car, but I would get an Infiniti G35 coupe (black). But I am still planning on getting over 200K miles on my '97 Maxima and I am almost halfway there.
I would buy a bike for about $900-$1000 and use the rest of the cash to travel overseas for a few months. you know an extended vacation. but that is just me ('')
For Less than 45K you have a few good options. If you want a 4-Door Sedan the Mercedes E320 (may be a little more) is a great car and the BMW 5-Series Rocks. I almost got a 5-Series but ended up getting an MB SLK b/c I already had an SUV, but that car rocks. For about 45 you can pick up a loaded 525i, or a reasonably packaged 530i. Its a very nice car with a nice warranty and service for 4yr/50k miles. If you wanted to go two-door you could pick up a MB CLK 320 with a few options as well. I'm not a 'truck' guy, so I can't tell you which of those I would suggest.
Definitely the 2003 Ferrari Enzo! V12, 650 bhp @ 7800 rpm, 0-60 in 3.3 sec, 0-100 in 6.6 sec, top speed 217 mph. What more can you ask for? It'd cost just a little bit more than yours and my own spending limit though.
kryten, When I was in grad school (which was like 7 to 9 years ago), there was a Ferrari 308GTB that would be parked in this bank parking lot several days a week. Granted it probably was a late '80s model, but it was still a sweet car to see that close in person. BTW - did you not realize that coma has quite a commute each day? He needs something that can get him gas mileage man like 40 miles to the gallon instead of 8!
On the other end of the spectrum, how about the: 1969 Plymouth Fury III You can save up the rest of the money for your retirement.
Yeah, I've meet a few eccentric doctors who love to drive fast cars while I rotated through my clerkships during med school as well. There was an old dermatopathologist who I think drove a 1994 355 GTS. Something that looks like this: I didn't get such good looks at it though, as he keeps it under a car cover most of the time. It's funny picturing an old geezer cruising down the highway in this thing, as he was definitely getting close to 70.
If you are looking at a 5 series, why not just get an M3 instead. M3's are one of the coolest cars out there.
My Dad had a 355 convertible for a little while. The only Ferrari he ever had (though he had a lot of Porsches throughout the years). For some reason, he's just driving one of these now: A Jaguar S-Type R.
Ooooooooh... how about the: 2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren I laid eyes on this one just now. Not quite as powerful as the Ferrari Enzo, but it's stunning .
I'm with Manny. If was a guy who just wanted a luxurious coupe with some speed capability, I'd buy a G35 since it has a back seat and a big trunk. But if I was buying a car without having to worry about a backseat, this is what I'd buy for slightly over/around 45 grand (delete the optional magnesium wheels which are really cool, really light and really strong and you go down to around 45 grand): Your Vehicle: 2004 Corvette Coupe Selected Style: Base 1SA Exterior: Magnetic Red Metallic Ii Interior: Black Highwear Nuance Leather Total MSRP:* $46,280.00 MSRP: $44,535.00 Color & Options: $1,745.00 Total MSRP:* $46,280.00 Dealer Installed: $0.00 Base 1SA • 5.7 liter LS1 V8 engine with SFI (350 horsepower) • Four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission • Speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering • Four-wheel disc antilock brakes • Active Handling System • Traction Control • Emissions, Federal requirements $0.00 • Engine, 5.7L LS1 V8 SFI , (350 HP [261.0 kW] @ 5200 rpm, 375 lb.-ft. [506.2 N-m] @ 4400 rpm for manual transmission, 360 lb.-ft. [486.0 N-m] @ 4000 rpm for automatic transmission) $0.00 • Transmission, 4-speed automatic, electronically controlled with overdrive $0.00 • Wheels, magnesium, 5-spoke, 17" x 8.5" (43.2 cm x 21.6 cm), front and 18" x 9.5" (45.7 cm x 24.1 cm), rear $995.00 Later on when the 350 hp does not toot your horn anymore, you can turn your car into this: Good old-fashioned Lingenfelter know-how: Later on you could go with the turbo kit he sells and push the power up to 650 h.p. Wow!!!!
One car I would think about getting is the Mini Cooper-S with the John Cooper 'Works Tuning Kit'...Imagine pumping 200 horsepower out of something the size of a Mini. The great thing about it is the fact that you could get every available feature on the Mini Cooper along with the 200 hp boost for between $25-30K.
Okay, back to a more reasonable price range, how about the: Lexus LS430 It's one of the most reliable sedans ever made, and you'll save on maintenance in the future for sure. It may cost a bit more than $55000 now, but comes with a good amount of features already.
