What single skill would you master to ensure a long, well-paying career without attaining superstar status? Remember, you have mediocre talent!

    PG
    SG
    C
    SF
    PF

    Have to go with either:

    A) Passing
    B) Shooting

Mastering either of those will give you a 15+ year career (i.e. MJax, EddieJohnson)

Followup question: which of the particular skills would generally be easiest to excel at?

Being tall. You can suck and still play center if you're 7' and strong enough to push Mihm off the block.

    PG--low turnovers, good passing

    SG--perimeter defense, 3-point ability

C--just need enough of an overall game so you can give 6 fouls while you don't embarrass the team.

SF--perimeter defense, loose ball hog, feeding the post

    PF--defense, rebounding, inside garbage points

I would be willing to give up my body on every play. I'd take charges, more charges, and dive after every ball on the floor.

I'd shoot every single time -- the choice was beyond question, thus 1-2X/week.

I'd set picks, and pass, and cheerlead from bench.

I'd never whine about playing time.

And, regardless of my height, I'd collect a decent check for years and years.

I'd be a physical rebounding power forward. I love physical contact around the basket.

Defense. I think it's easier to stay on the floor for an NBA coach as a player with strong D and weak O, than vice versa.

Shooting and passing. Those are the only skills that will last even after your body is getting old. And they are skills that every team needs.

Isn't most of the NBA a mediocre talent once you pass the top 10 players in the league. I love the NBA, but the past 2 or 3 seasons have been disappointing. Now, the NFL has taken over as my favorite league to watch. I watch every Rockets game, but overall the NBA has declined. The NFL, most of the time you can watch any matchup and be interained unlike the NBA.

I've been having the same feeling. Even more so with college bball.

You can't teach height, so if you're not going to have talent you should master being coordinated AND 7 feet.

PG-passing and ballhandling--no turnovers and get the ball to the playmakers
SG-consistent shooting from all ranges--mid range and 3 pt.
SF- versatility-- especially passing and defense
    PF-reliable post moves and defense
    C-coordination and toughness
