Alright...the Shaq vs Yao comparisons are all over. And right now, IMHO, Shaq is probably the better center. However, if i was a manager of a team, thinking NOW and FUTURE...out of every center in the league including Duncan, Nowitzky, Shaq, etc...i would pick Yao Ming. This guy is a ROOKIE and he's averaging 12ppg and 8rpg and 2bpg. This is including his bad games and all, lately Yao has been on fire!

With shaq's injury problem. It would be a close call between Yao/Dirk/TD, but i think i would go with Yao...because nobody can teach height. Yao has TOP NOTCH game AND still has yet to use his height to it's full advantage.

oh, and just one more thing...i forget who said that they would only NOT trade 5 guys for LeBron James. Honestly, i think Yao would be one of those guys. In fact, I would probably limit the guys i'd trade Yao for down to 1 or 2, if i'd ever trade him. Yao has too bright of a future and too strong of a NOW to trade.

Would you too pick Yao if you were a manager?

I’ll take it a step further. There is not even one player in the league that I would trade for Yao Ming. He is the total package. He plays the game the way it was played in the golden era and he is a team first player. He is a rookie that has the Olajuwan Dream Shake, the Jabbar Sky Hook and a perfect fade away jumper just to name a few. The guy calling the game with Walton the other night said it best when he described Yao Ming’s arsenal as Baskin Robins because he has so many different varieties of moves and shots.

Go back and look at other stud player's rookie years. Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, Shaq, Duncan, all hit the ground running & continued to improve. Ming has been damn impressive - and is currently among the best centers in the league (Duncan, Garnett, Nowitski are tall - but are forwards).

Also, your take is weakened by including Nowitski - he doesn't have post moves to speak of, and certainly can't guard on the low block like true post 7 footers can. He not only plays forward, he COULD NOT play center.

IMO, if GM's were given a chance to choose ANY big in the league right now, because of what they have already PROVEN they can do - Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Webber, among others would be selected RIGHT NOW before Ming - a bird in the hand & all that. Teams soon will begin to develop game plans to specifically deal with Yao - if he shows he can still dominate (like those players I mentioned have) then he will move up the list.

Duncan is a center. Garnett and Nowitzski have forward games, but Duncan plays like a center and is the approximate size for a center. Had he started out on just about any other team, he would have played center most of his career and this wouldn't even be a discussion.

    Right now:
    1. Shaq
    2. Duncan
    3. Ming

Ming has the most potential but as someone else mentioned see what he does in his second year when teams make adjustments to him.

Which is why I included him as a "big", but left Nowitski off that list. Also, I wouldn't think Rocket fan would want TD listed & considered a center - it would drop Yao one step down on the "best center right now" list.

You can't be satisfied with how good he is? Jesus Christ, just stuff it in your pipe and smoke it. Duncan is a center.

Tim Duncan, IMO the best player in the league(Though I wish he would be slightly more assertive on the offensive end...A guy this talented should be getting more than 21 points a game)

Yao Ming would be a close second(Since we're talking longterm)
