If you fire Morey, who would you hire to replace him?

Some people have argued that Morey isn't a top 5 GM in the league, meaning there are at leat 5 better than him. And with a 30-team league that means Morey is only at the 83rd percentile or worse and that's not championship caliber.

So, if that is true, which current GMs and other GM candidates will be a clear upgrade from Morey and thus should be hired to replace him (assuming they are available/willing to take the job)? Explain reasoning.

The only other GM I would want is Sam Presti.

Charles Barkley...  , no but honestly I can't think of anyone right now, the only thing that separates him from the top 5 GM is that we haven't won a championship in his era yet, IMO he is probably one of top 3 GM in this league as of now, and to prove my point in 2009 he was recognized as one of the top 10 most creative people in sports by some magazine which I don't remember.

Buford (Spurs), Kupchak (Lakers), Otis (Magic)... Presti, like Pritchard, has done a great job at the rebuilding, but still have to create a contender roster. Like Morey too.

The only GM that is arguably better is RC Buford/Popovich. Sam Presti is also good. But honestly, I think Morey is better than both. He simply hasn't had a top #2 pick fall into his lap in a year in which Duncan or Durant are in the top 2.

I'll take Pritchard because I know he tries to copy what Morey does, therefore where Morey goes Pritchard will be stalking his every move, therefore it would be like Morey never left :).

The Thunder went to the playoffs this past season, they have Serge Ibaka, Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kevin Durant and a rookie who could be the next Vanilla Gorilla. I'd say that team is further along than even a HEALTHY Trailblazer team.

Actually with Moreybot 2.0. As we all know Daryl Morey as part of his 2/5 project with the Houston Rockets has decided to clone himself with a decision making robot. From insider reports I've gathered that the Rockets currently are looking to perfect Moreybot 2.0's Kung Fu action grip. In 5 years the real Morey will be a thing of the past.

dmorey: KP will be missed RT @BlazerFreeman Kevin Pritchard's open letter to Blazers fans written for The Oregonian: http://tinyurl.com/25tqo2k

    You believe Daryl? :p

    Sorry, got a bit off-topic.

I'd say Buford, Presti, Pritchard. Sorry, can't narrow it to one. Ok, give me Daryl. If not Daryl, I guess Buford. If not Buford, Pritchard. If not Pritchard, Presti.

If only Morey had no constantly injured superstars, horrendous cap situationand the following

    #2
    #3
    #4
    #5
    #10

OKC's picks in the past five years.

Perhaps the moral of the story is, Morey should leave the Rockets and rebuild anew for the Nets or something.

I understand that you have a higher probability in getting a star player with a higher pick but you also have to be pretty damn good to hit on pretty much all of your picks up to this point. I'm sure Morey would agree with this.

My point is that it's much easier to look good when you're given a natural advantage. The reason why I personally wouldn't replace Morey with any other GM is that Morey has overcame severe odds and horrible situations left by CD's mismanagement, and horrible luck with the stars he inherited. If Morey had inherited this team with a clean slate, and consecutive top 5 lottery picks, he'd look much better in the eyes of fans and the media.

In NBA coaching terms, I would view Morey has Larry Brown. A coach who can get the most out of any team he goes to.

I just answered the OP's thread title question man lol. I never said Morey was bad or incompetent. Presti didn't impress me much either until this year when he made very smart deals to bolster the roster he has already. It's not shocking considering he was on the Spurs' payroll a few years back.

Though now that I've read his ENTIRE post, I don't think Presti is an upgrade over Morey. I blame Carl Herrera for engaging me into answering a question that had more substance than originally posted/intended.

Mitch is not that good. Presti is better by far. Heck, I could be successful running the Lakers.
