...maybe you'll prefer this halftime show! <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NB_D5IbcAeg"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NB_D5IbcAeg" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> For ANYONE who thought the Stones sucked...think again.
I thought he was great too. Kind of predictable, but great nonetheless. My girlfriend is seeing him in Vegas next weekend.
That was the best Super Bowl halftime show I've ever seen. I hope this performance bumps him up to the upper echelon of music acts again.
Just FYI, I loved the Prince show. I thought he was phenomenal. I really just wanted to post this video.
Why does Prince get no love for his guitar work when the greats are mentioned? Remember back in the day when people thought Prince was weird and Michael was normal?
I thought it was alright. The mix sucked though. His guitar was a "little" hot but not that bad. But his backup band was set up way too low. I couldn't hear the bass player at all. One of his backup singer had a decent volume on her mic but the other two (who were dancing around) had wireless headsets on were almost inaudible. I dug some of Prince's guitar work but didn't dig a lot either. There was a lot of sloppy incental noise. But that could have been covered up if he wasn't so loud in comparison to the band. I half expected the UMiami band to come out and start swinging their instruments at the FAMU band. Oh well, at least I know it was live. I'd take that over perfect pre-recorded tracks anyday.
Some redneck was on the radio this morning trying to say that he doesn't really play guitar. Uh.....he DOES. And quite well, I might add.
So you expected 3 out of the 5 songs he did to not be Prince songs? I thought that was the reason it was interesting - he just kind of threw random songs (and a marching band) around guitar solos (on three different guitars). The sound was horrible and muddied his guitar work but it was good.
Prince doesn't get a lot of hype as a guitarist because he is predominantly known as a writer and performer. He plays a LOT of instrument, actually. He just isn't identified FIRST as a guitar player. Every big time guitar player is either JUST a guitarist (i.e. Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, etc) or is a better player than a singer (i.e. Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn) and, thus, known for the guitar. Prince was ALWAYS a performer/writer/singer first and a guitarist second. Even during the halftime show, there were parts where he didn't play guitar at all. As for the volume level, I agree. His guitar and vocal were two to three times as loud as his band. One of the sound guys messed up. They finally adjusted at the very end.
I got you. He has such a large catalog of his songs to choose from, I guess I thought he might come out with some songs that not everyone has heard before. But yeah, I thought it was the best SB halftime I've seen in a long time. Maybe ever. Besides Brittney Spears and Aerosmith. Kidding.
prince is one of those people that i respect as a musician but can't really get into his music. that solo he did in 'while my guitar gently weeps' at the rock n roll hall of fame was amazing.
