The Rockets will move into their new arena next year. Just in time for Yao (Poor Yao will only have to suffer the PAJAMAS for one year)! What do you want the new unis to look like? Examples... Classic/Traditional...("Take me out to the ball park...") http://www.teambaseb.com/TakeBallPark.htm Modern, sharp, simple...("Beam me up Scotty!")
The ones they have are ok if they make them less loud. Get rid of all the cartoony stuff. The pinstripes look ok. They should get whoever did the Stros uniforms to do theirs.
I like the v-neck like the Raptors and Lakers have. I think maybe Black and Red or Maybe Grey and Blue kinda like the Orlando Magic. I think we definately need a new logo. I dont like that ugly cartoon snarling Rocket. Maybe keep the idea of a blasting Rocket but not with a freaking face on it man!
One of the complaints that some have posted about Houston is the lack of tradition. That is one reason why I think we should do what the Pistons did...go back to something resembling the old unis. Not only did we change the unis...we changed the entire color scheme. A team's colors are their identity in many ways. To many they can't see this as the Rocket's franchise they grew up watching. I know that for the first few games in the current unis I felt a slight disconnect. I'd be thrilled if they went back to tradition.
The current color scheme is cool, but I'd use the logo that is on the hardwood floor at the Compaq Center's half court line (the rocket explosion) and place it on one side of the shorts (navy or white) with the rocket flame trail angling towards the center of the jerseys (navy or white) and keep the current logo at the center of the jerseys, but by all means LOSE THE STRIPES !!! The stripes look particularly hideous with the team wearing black shoes and socks (especially Walt Williams' and Moochies' high black socks; WAY too hard on the eyes). The white hot rocket burst which is used on the hardwood floor would symbolize explosiveness which the Rockets have in abundance, high energy, and speed of motion which would be consistent with the teams' high octane offensive potential in terms of fast break potential
my vote is for modern. take away the pinstripes and logo. replace them with the team name and move the jersey # under the letters.
Definitely use the traditional colors...that would add a certain amount of class. The Lakers and celtics haven't change their unis.
The Lakers and Cerltics are the teams I have used in numerous discussions with friends about this. Also the Pistons and Sonics have gone back to their traditional unis in recent years. The Blazers haven't changed their unis. Tradition is important and keeping your traditional team colors counts.
For a new logo change, I want a cowboy riding on a rocket. Bring the past of Houston, with the present/future of Houston.
The funny thing about the PAJAMA uniforms the Rockets wear now is that they aren't the same as the ones you would buy at Champs Sporting goods... For example, if you go into any sporting goods store and get a Francis #3 jersey, you'll notice that those TACKY stripes are missing. They aren't real "replicas" and that's a good thing. So, the jerseys that the fans can buy are GOOD looking; the white ones, or the blue ones. But the ones that the Rockets wear on the court are embarrassing. If the Rockets front office would just remove the BIG stripes they wouldn't need to create new uniforms. $$$ saved. If they wont remove the stripes, then yes, please design new ones.
Okay, and that is fine, but creating a new jersey will create a buzz, and people will buy it, thus $$$ made.
Good point, but... Back when the Rockets changed to their new uniforms I sent a letter to the Rockets front office asking why don't they change it to something better (It was obvious the fans didn't like the "new look.")? What I got back was a letter that said that unis were set in stone. A lot of money went into the contract design, the distribution, materials, programs, team photos, team ads, commercials and manufacturing. That cost money. Forget the money that the franchise makes after the unis are in circulation. If the team makes a change, it cost money. So, it's not about wether the new unis will sell. They will. Just like the current ones sell now (w/out the stripes). The point I was making was that all the Rockets have to do is remove the stripes and it would make for a better uniform for the players on the court (not the store bought ones, the ones the players wear). But, if the unis that the players wear are changed, then the ones in the stores will have to be changed too (double cost). By the way, I don't care if the Rockets change it to Red/While (gold), Modern, or Traditional. Just as long as they look sharp, not TACKY/BUSY/CLUTTERED, like the the current uniforms.
Just make the players pay for their uniforms. If they want a job, then they got to buy their own work clothes damn it! Then make the uniform as expensive and cool as possible. Sold only at Needless Markup. A subsidy from player sales goes to fan replicas, and we get them for $29.99 + tax.
The poll results depress me almost as much as the current pajamas. Why doesn't every sports team in the U. S. wear red white and blue? Jeez, the NFL used to have specific rules against a team duplicating another teams colors, now they wink and take the $$$s. I agree with the above post about identity - and the Rockets took the money and ran after their 2nd championship and Clyde came out on the stage with his toddler son praying people wouldn't be looking at him. The kid looked good in the pajamas. What's funny to me is that the 25 and under crowd are the primary market for sports aparrel, and the only reason the reason the Rockets are changing the unis now is because our current monstrosities never passed for "cool" in any age bracket. I give the Texans an F for creativity with their name and colors, but at least their uniforms look good. The Rocket's marketing analysis used when they selected our current unis is the probably the worst job I've ever seen. If the Rockets change the color scheme again to make money, I don't really care because they already have made me to constantly mentally equate these p.j. and colors with the Rockets. But I do also equate these colors and unis with decline, disappointment and watching NBA legends just looking ridiculous. On the up-side there will be no division, conference or NBA championship banners in the new arena to mark this ridiculous blunder.
red and gold, well sort of. i think red and yellow should come back, back make it modern; do wha the redskins did, and like what florida state looks like; make red crimson, and yellow gold. theyll look great!!!
Well, the colors (red, white and blue) do represent Texas in a way... The Texas flag is basic red, white and blue. Simple, but sharp. As far as the Houston Texans....(name and colors), well I like the logo! I think the reason we didn't want to go with the Houston Stallions is because Denver already had a "horse" mascot. Not to mention that Denver uses orange, while and blue (We would look too similar with a horse head on the side of the helmet, plus having similar colors). The name, "Texans" is OK. It doesn't bother me. It's basic, simple and to the point. The ONE thing that I wouldn't want Houston to do is to try SOOOO HARD to make a statement or be "original" that they end up being TACKY! It's happened before: Astro's of the 80's (rainbow-bright), and the current Rockets unis with a court to match (before they changed it). Does anyone remember the basketball court at the beginning of the 95-96 season? Embarrassing! Who designed that? K-Mart!? I think that's all that matters. Now all we have to do is put a winning team on the court. We might lose, but at least we wont look like we're wearing clown suits. Losing in the current (Rocket) uniforms is like adding *insult to injury.*
Red and Gold is just such a terrible combo. I think we should go back to red as a primary color for our jersey, it makes sense for the Rockets to have a flaming red color, but I just don't want to ever see that hidious golden basketball again. The reason the lakers and the celtics have kept their jerseys so long is because people liked the colors and more importantly, they have won so many championships with those same jerseys, it would seem wrong to change them.
Thank you. No more pimp colors for our uniforms please. And the only teams with a tradition in the NBA are the Celtics and the Lakers.
declan32001, as far as I know, the only other team in the NBA with Red, White and Blue is the Pistons. What sucks though is there are four teams in Houston with the same colors, Rockets, Texans, Cougars, Comets. I like the current color scheme alot, and the logo isnt bad either, but the unis could definitley use a face lift.
