Which one Astro would you cut and why?

I'd start with Kent, 'cause I'm still angry about last Saturday. Weathers is next on my list - he blows.

ausmus by a long shot. i dont know how the guy is even able to look himself in the mirror every morning, and actually accept an mlb paycheck. these past 2 years, he has been nothing short of brutal, and his "amazing defensive game" has been reduced to being able to block balls decently.

if i had a nickel for everytime i heard the announcers say "and ausmus hits a slow ground ball to _____".

i cringe everytime he steps up to the plate.

It would have to be Jeff Bagwell just because of his contract. He's a legend, but that arm is broke beyond repair.

    Jeff Bagwell.....why?

    That big salary... +

    That bad shoulde... +

    Those poor stats... +

= Little bang for your buck.

This team needs to be rebuilt. Bags glory days are far behind him. Rebuilding this team into being a perennial power once again begins with Bagwell's exit.

Ausmus. He frustrates the hell out of me. At one time, he was the kind of catcher that warranted giving up some offensive punch. He is no longer that kind of catcher.

As for Bagwell...even if you cut him, you're still stuck with that contract. You can't get rid of that obligation unless he's willing to negotiate some sort of retirement settlement.

The poll scenario is no different from real life - if you choose to cut someone, you'll still have to pay his salary (ex: Bagwell).

I voted Weathers because - well if you don't know, I'm not sure why you opened this thread. But we do need a catcher, a bullpen and mercy from Bagwell.

I went with Bagwell. I dont care how big his salary, is he is NOT helping the Astros by playing. He is not an everyday big leaguer anymore.

Also, I don't care that Biggio is having a nice season at the plate, it's time for the Astros to get younger, and if the Astros allow Biggio to play here next year, then it shows the Astros do not care about improving their ballclub.

I think in McLane's view, Bags and Biggio are like that one girlfriend that is sooo hard to get over.

It's time to move on Drayton, time for some new blood.

    Ausmus.

...and I dont have to provide a reason.

If he comes back next season....then I will be finally convinced the Drayton and his cronnies do not care about winning. I will likely boycotte the Astros season for that.

I don't want to see Ausmus back even for a $100K contract. He will just be a waste of roster space then. Go to M-W.com and next to useless you will see Brad picture there. Even his lucky game wining RBI the other day does not change anything.

If we only kept even Bako

Isn't Ausmus signed through next season? He will be back until the Astros are able to acquire a suitable replacement. Chavez is not that guy and Gimenez is still a couple seasons away. It is interesting to see Buck fall flat on his face. Maybe for once the Astros sold high?

Btw, the obvious answer is Weathers. I don't know what the Astros saw in this guy. Sure he has had some decent seasons in the past, but he has stunk all season long. The guy is not a major league pitcher at this point.

No way I'd cut Ausmus. The guy is invaluable behind the plate even if he does suck when he's not directing traffic. I'd say cut any of our crappy pitchers. Let's go by highest ERA or most blown saves?

Weathers! He sucks, he sucks so damn much! Get him off my favorite team, that *******! He has done nothing but bring the Astros down. They would have been better off giving Doggy away - that's basically what they did except they had this sack pitch for us in return, a bad move.

    Weathers has to go....

On this team I would keep only the following:

    Berkman
    Biggio
    Lidge
    Clemens
    Pettitte (Healthy!!!)
    Oswalt
    Everett
    Vizcaino

I believe the Astros are going to have a very interesting off-season.
