It's just an embarassment to watch this team.

It's frustrating to be a Texans fan, but I just need to vent...

I feel bad for the offensive player - excluding the offensive line, Gaffney and Bradford. Carr is a good QB, D Davis is a good RB, and Dre is a star WR. Morlon Greenwood has been a bust and Travis Johnson hasn't shown any breakouts of being that pass rusher we need. We should just start rookies on the OL to see if they can develop better than Pitts, McKinney, Weigert, etc. But when you have dumbasses like Casserly, Pendry, and Capers running this squad, we are definitely bound to have the #1 pick in next year's draft.

Tonight, what kind of crap move was it to put Chester Pitts at LT? That piece of garbage is getting burned left and right in every game this year (including tonight's). Carr gets zero time to throw the ball. All these short passes make me sick! The playcalling is terrible on both sides (who the hell would call a 3rd and 3 run up the middle on a defense that has both it's linebackers lined up in the middle tonight?!?!?).

    They need to next year:

    - Fire Casserly, Capers, Pendry and Fangio
    - Dump the whole offensive line
    - Pick Leinhart as the #1 pick and trade down to get some OL and pass rushers
    - Pick some quality OL in FA, pass rushers, and another playmaking WR in FA

    What do you guys think?

I don't see how Leinart would be that much of an upgrade over Carr. We wouldn't be 4-0 or even 2-2 with him. I think the Texans need help in a lot of areas. After that ND game, I'd love to snag up Reggie Bush, and maybe move DD for some picks to draft OL.

I don't understand people wanting to take Leinart. He would suck as bad as Carr with our line. They should take the best left tackle in the draft and begin building the lines.

I'd use free agency and would make trades to build up a veteran offensive line. I'd take Reggie Bush in the draft. I'd let Carr go simply because he is tooo expensive. We can get a quarterback with similar talent as Carr for cheaper, maybe a good free agen qb, or trade for someone like Billy Volek, or use Ragone if hes ready. He did get MVP in the nfl europe league. Carr isn't that bad, but I think we can all agree he isn't worth the price even with a good OL.

And then i'd fire Dom Capers and i'd hire an offensive minded coach like Gary Kubiak or anyone who coaches similar to Mike Shanahan. I love his style. But it will still take a few years to build our defense up. I'd also get rid of the 3-4 defense because we don't have the talent at linebacker to run the 3-4.

Hope Vince Young declares for the draft.

Trade the number one pick for two first rounders (top ten and a mid 20's or so).

Draft Vince Young with the lower pick.

Draft a young stud offensive lineman with the later pick.

Trade Carr for a first, second, or third rounder...whatever we can get.

    Draft a lineman with that.

Use the first 4 picks on lineman.

    Draft defense with the rest.

Sign a decent veteran pure passer.

Upgrade the o-line as much as possible.

Bring Young along slowly behind the pure passer. Let him be mentored under a pure passer to upgradehis passing game. The scrambling is natural. The next year (or halfway through...once the line shows promise) start Vince Young.

IF I could Trade Carr or Davis, for an early Pick, I'd use the #1 for Leinart or Bush, then use the next pick on a lineman. You upgrade a skill position, get younger, save money, and can start over. it's gotten that bad. There is just no hope.

The offensive and defensive lines need to be upgraded BIGTIME.
Also, the quality of the linebackers is not where it should be.
In addition,DDavis is a good player, but I prefer a bigger back that can do what he does.I wouldn't have made anything close to the type of financial commitment the team has made to Davis.
I would keep Carr,as I believe it is the sad state of the offensive line and Dom Capers that are the problem.
McNair needs to bust out the axe on Capers, but not Casserly

    - Fire Capers/Casserly. I don't care who replaces them, just do it.

If we have the #1, I'd trade down for a Top5 pick and another 1st rounder.

    - Draft D. Ferguson w/ top5 pick. We need a face for our OL, Leinart and Bush wouldn't do anything better than Carr and Dre/Davis with this OL/offense.

    - Draft a wide receiver w/ lower 1st rounder, could draft another offensive linemen if a steal is available.

    - Sign some reasonable FAs.

If we retool the OL and Carr still doesn't produce, most likely we would have a high pick the following year...thats when you pick up VY. :D

Yes. If I was Casserly, I would fire myself.

How he convinced himself that replacing Sharper and Glenn with Greenwood and Buchanon is improvement I don't know. Not to mention the o-line.

Damn it, David Carr is not the problem!

It is the lack of an offensive line and crap coaching.

Put some protection around him and a coach who isn't so damn conservative, and Carr and the Texans will do great.

I'm not sure if he is or not, but seeing him struggle (a lot of which has to go on the offensive line) makes me want us to draft my new favorite quarterback...Vine Young. Really stupid and unfan-like(new word!) attitude, but I can't help it.

Also, for some reason, I have this big feeling that once we get Mathis back and he's healthy and is getting consistent passes for a season or so, that he will surprise a lot of people.

There are some nice O-Linemen in this coming draft. But if we try to fill those holes through the draft and have them adjust to the NFL, I think we might be looking at a couple more years of mediocrity at the offensive line. Regardless, please settle the O Line.

Our lines must be one of the worst in NFL history! Our offensive line can not protect the QBack or block for the RUN nowadays (at least they were doing that before) Our defensive line can not put ANy pressure on the QB. You guys wonder why we can't get any turnovers?? Any NFL QB can throw the ball to some degree. If they're safe as a baby in his cradle, how are we going to expect a mistake? These opposing QBs have all day to analyze the situation and then throw the ball to wide open receivers. I won't even blame it on our secondary, because they are still semi-decent. The reason we're struggling is no matter how good our secondary might be, if the QB has time, receives WILL RUN FREE!

The O-Line, on the other hand, is pathetic. I didn't watch the game, but I listened to part of it on the radio. If i had to listen to one more "Carr gets the snap,"(1 one thousand 2 on...)"Carr throws it away to the sidelines," I'm ready to switch to one of those boring Sunday shows on TV. Something needs to happen. The truth is, the Texans needs to take some chances. Our style of football is too conservative. That usually works if you have the better team, and for us, we don't. What's worse is we have a nice weapon in Andre Johnson (at least we think we do), and we have NO CHANCE to get ANY production out of him because we can't utilize his strength and his speed because we have no time to throw vertically. Our Tight End was brought in because he's a receiving TE with "good" blocking skills, but we don't use him to spread the field AT ALL! We don't try anything different and have 2 WRs for the WHOLE game with DD peeling off to the side (and receiving 75% of the passes) Just MAYBE if our offensive linemen are that bad at blocking, we should not be adding too many extra blockers because they counter with that many "better" rushers? If we try a different approach (hell, bring back the run and shoot for all I care.... I can actually see that working somehow.), we might be able to find some success. Maybe 3 wide receivers or 4... spread the field. If they want to double team a couple of our receivers, that'll be 6 people guarding our receivers or they leave a 1 on 1 coverage to our better receivers or one wide open. That gives them 5 at most rushing and less secondary help. Utilize DD as a possible out with MORE ROOM TO RUN if we have to dump to him because the field is spread out. Bruener will have more chances at bump and fade for pass patterns, and maybe the RUN might open up because DD is more of a cut running back and doesn't seem to be able to run through TOO many people. In fact, that might give Morency some use too. With the field spread out, we can utilize his speed more, and get our WRs chances at bringing some .... attitude... to the game.

I feel that the decision process is terrible. I've seen bad teams with little talent win. I've seen teams get dominated, but I have NEVER seen a professional team that does not change their plans in order to adapt to their weaknesses and strong points. I think the only thing that irritates me more is how I turn on 610AM half the time and they're STILL talking about football night and day when I wanted to hear some Astros talk.

I think even if some how we don't get the first pick, the team that has it will probably give it to the Texans because they feel sorry for them.

Imagine if we get the first pick to take Leinart and then he pulls an Eli on us and says the hell with this team I'm not ready to die young.

It's not David's fault initially, but he's damaged psychologically. He runs even when there isn't any pass rush.

I say we start all over with EVERYBODY. David will be too expensive to keep when we know we won't be competitive for many years. Let him go and have a lame duck cheap QB playing while we rebuild our OL. I would not use the top overall pick on Leinart or Vince Young, if Vince is available in the 2nd round then take him. Then sit him if our OL is still letting sacks until they they get better.

Fire the entire coaching staff and Casserly. See what happens next season with a new philosophy.

    Solutions for this Season

    1) Fire Capers. The players are not playing for him now. Maybe we should put Pendry in as coach. Not a big Pendry fan, but at least he offers a more disciplined approach and should change the team outlook. You can't let a coach continue if the players quit on him.

    2) This may be drastic, but it is time to send a message. Time to waive players who do not perform:

    a) Todd Wade - this guy is the worst guy on this horrendous line. He gets lost on who to block and he is not effective when he actually finds someone to block. To think that we thought he was our long-term solution at RT, what a joke.

    b) Gary Walker - I don't know why we extended his contract to such terrible terms. He would never be able to command that sort of salary in the open market even if he repeated his pro-bowl year. He doesn't put pressure on the line and he doesn't make plays. He is terrible. We drafted Travis Johnson for a reason, so let's see him play out the year.

The two cuts will result in a lost of $10-12 million in cap room next season (can a capologist verify this), but it is best to get rid of their contracts ASAP and hopefully we can compete in 2007.

    3) Play Carr at shotgun for the rest of the year. That's the only way to buy him some time. That should at least buy him an extra second in the pocket because he starts off in the pocket. That should give him 2 total seconds in the pocket. Run quick slants and curls and see if we can move that ball that way.

    4) This is officially a developmental year. It's time to bench the vets and play the young prospects and see if anyone of them can stick (e.g. if Lord is the FS of the future, let's bench Coleman). Also, play the young guards like Milford Brown and Fred Weary, they couldn't possibly do worse.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Off-season Solutions

    1) Revamp O-line - They are guarenteed to have a top-3 pick IMO, so the pick should be D'Brickshaw Ferguson if he is the next great OT talent. Waive Weigert and McKinney. We should also draft an OG who can start and an OT project with good long prospect. If there is a good center in the draft, we probably should jump on that too. We should be looking for a veteran RT and C in free agency.

    2) I hope our next coach can stick to the 3-4 defense because our personnel are geared for that. I am satisfied with the secondary, but we need the front 7 to be A LOT more effective.

    a) Seth Payne has to be replaced and I am not sure if TJ is the answer as a DE on our line. We need a nose tackle that actually commands double team and I guess we can give TJ a chance.

    b) Hopefully Babin can come back healthy. While he may not be too skilled at the OLB position, I think he might do okay if we move him inside. Peek is not a starting OLB, he is a situational player on passing down at best. I expect two new starters at OLB. Hopefully, we can find one in free agency and maybe we get a couple of good prospects in the draft.

    3) We need a receiving TE. Bruener and Rivers are deadweight as TEs. I think Bubba Franks is an unrestricted FA this coming year and I think they should go all out and try to get that guy.
