It seems that more and more people are buying into the theory that Yao is gonna be the best power player in the league sooner than later.

Yao still has a ways to go before we start labeling him a power player. I think his finesse game is at 90%, while his power game is a meer 10%. For Ming to be a better power player he has to gain that take no prisoners mentality down low, and start dishing out the punishment on the opposition.

Based on what he did to Amare and Ben Wallace and Shaq, it is there. No doubt. Fortunately he has other options and skills.

    Duncan and KG aren't centers.

KG isn't even considered a power player.

    So power player = centers?

I don't know. I think that players like Amare are definitely power players. Duncan should also be considered as a power player.

Just what's this definition of a power player?

My point was, people don't compare Yao with Duncan and KG because they don't play the same position.

I consider Duncan a power player, not Garnett.

I think when he said power player, he meant dominating types that change the game because they are a cut above the rest in the NBA...so it can be a combination of dominance, size and strength...just like the way shaq used to be...

Ming just needs to get some pointers from Stevie Forearms.

Yao is still learning and will continue to learn for the next few years. I think the difference between and a lot of great power players is that he didnt have a few years to develop in college.

Ok, KG didnt go to college, but it still took him a few years to adjust:

KG's situation, and any high schooler entering the nba, is more similar to Yao's, even tho Yao is older. Think about it, why do highschoolers need years to adjust? Because they are not developed physically, and it take training for their bodies to get into nba shape. Yao, tho older, is in the same position. CBA training has left yaos body and conditioning no where near nba standards, so he will take a few years to adjust to the nba's speed/strenghth, afterwards i fully anticipate him being at or above the level of KG duncan etc.
