If Yao Ming was 6 inches shorter, would he be a power forward?

Ya know, I was thinking about how well Cato has played this season. Sometimes I wish Yao Ming and Cato could be on the floor at the same time in certain situations. However, this could never happen because they are both centers right?

So then I thought "maybe Cato could play some at the 4", but then I remembered that Cato really needs to be fed at the basket to score any points. Plus I would rather he be under the basket grabbing rebounds.

Then I started thinking about Yao's shooting touch, shooting range, and footwork. If Yao was six inches shorter he might be playing at the 4 kind of like Duncan is now. Maybe at 7'6", he could create some match-ups the NBA has never seen before.

Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to play Cato at the center and Yao at the 4 when the situation allowed.

    Any thoughts??

We already have 3 other decent power forwards, why would Rudy want to play his only good center at that position? let the Center play Center. And anyway it would just make our team much slower up and down the court. Unless we are playing half court basketball, it wouldn't work.

I think Yao at 7'6" doesn't have the lateral quickness to play the 4, and would get abused every time he played there.

I think he could play the 4. On offense it really doesn't matter, because he will probably have the center on him anyways. On defense Rudy T is putting in the zone, so I think it would be easier to see Cato and Ming on the floor at the same time. Is it a good idea. No I don't think so, we have three 4's already why another one. I think Griffin is the future at the 4, while MoT should be the short term player at the position.

The point I was trying to make it that it might be a good idea in certain situations, especially in the zone. I'm not saying that it is a permanent switch, but right now everyone is complaining about the play of our power forwards. Maybe they could do it when the match up is right. Yao could really take advantage of some people at the 4. Anyone that runs past him will face up with Cato. I think it could work a few times down the court.

What better matchup for that could there be than the Spurs game? If RT didnt use it against Dunc and Mermaid, he aint ever gonna use it. It is a shame tho, I would actually like to see it for short periods of time.(reminds me of 86) ;)

Gregonomics...why dont you let the admins decide who needs to stop posting. It aint up to you..when you have been here for a while...you will realize how stupid it sounds to say stuff like that.

He plays more of a power forward type of game with his style and shooting touch. I think it could work. Yet we will never know.

If Yao Ming were 6'10" he would be a player in the Chinese Basketball Association. Let's not confuse ourselves here, his *main* asset is his height. While he certainly has skills, his height is what makes him NBA quality.

Maybe if Yao got quicker, he might be able to. He's just a rookie so you never know what next year will bring.

I think you just need to drive by that fork in the road again, gregonomics. You've clearly chosen a dead end.
