    trade talks

I definitely agree with Meh on what Steve Francis needs to improve on in order for the organization to want to keep him around for subsequent seasons. However, I don't believe that Steve Francis is the only person warranting trade talk. The person who I believe deserves this the most, sad to say, is Cuttino Mobley. He's an excellent defender and I love the guy, but he's not all there mentally, as is seen in his performance against the Lakers in Game 2. He takes LOW percentage shots, loses the ball, and let's not forget fouling Kobe Bryant at the end of the third to send him to the line for three free throws (which I felt, turned the tide entirely to the favor of the Lakers). So, the rockets either have to keep the ball away from Mobley (Unless Yao Ming or somebody else sees him, or the rest of the team for that matter, move without the ball and create) or trade him. Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing some trade talks concerning Kelvin "Spoon Fed" Cato.

Earlier in the season I would have loved to trade Cat, but he seems to be improving on fitting into his role, especially defensively. Plus, he's a steal at what we're paying him so I think he's a keeper. He still makes mistakes, but I feel like he's doing a good job of changing. On the other hand, Steve's progress hasn't been so good. He's still making bad plays, looks uncomfortable in our offense, and his strengths just don't play into Van Gundy's system. To top it off, we're paying him more than anyone else on the team. I definitely think if there's anyone we should shop around, it's Steve...plus we can get way more for him in return.

I think steve played amazingly well last night, he was dribble penetrating and making the assist. sometimes, it's totally right for him to ISO-- cross his man..and just take the jumpshot. He is that good.... but sometimes his jumper is off... needs consistency but definitely has the tools and mentality to get it done. I was fairly impressed.

Can't argue with that ... when a guy scored a triple-double and lead the team in all three categories, he had a great game. Unfortunately, it was wasted.

Gumby's role for Steve is a bad one.

Put a real power forward alongside SF and Yao, and watch this team do some damage.

We have to upgrade our forwrd spots if we are going to want to get anywhere past where we are. Rashard Lewis, Rasheed Wallace, or Shareef Abdur Rahim are the three players that we need to pursue HARD. After that we should look to add another guard, probably a pg to rotate with Steve and Cat. If we do trade Cato, people need to realize that we have to get a center to back Yao up since he cannot go for more than 35 mins a game.

We would probably have to yield Steve in a trade to get any of the players you mentioned. Granted, Steve Francis > Rashard Lewis, but still....

We need a power forward to complement Yao's finesse game. I would like to get Rashard -if only to shut the whiners up on the board about Rudy passing on a High school player...

I want Brand-like power. Or make a deal for Rasheed.

    On second thought -forget Rashard!!!!

Thank you Summer Song, you are correct! Steve is not a play maker that is going to make Yao Ming a better NBA Player, he is a versatile scorer that needs to be able to make his own decissions when he gets the ball on the court. JVG should let Steve have his way. Posibly the first half could feature a Center oriented Team with Francis on the bench, every pass goes through Yao Ming, then Yao sits down and rests for most of ther second half while we bring in Steve and revert to Rudy Ball and the Guards strut their stuff. If needed a very fresh Yao Ming could come in for the final five mins. In this way the Club is fair to both athletes. The alternative is not too pleasant.

I thought this summer when Rice contract was going to be attractive and the signing of Jim Jackson, I was sure Mobley and Rice would be packaged together for someone like SAR. Instead, we wound up with Amechi, gave up the pick and got the trade exception. The TE can be used i think in junction with a player to get a player kind of like a get out of jail free card that can be passed to another team. If thats the case, the 6.9 and a player can get you a max player. If we're going to get someone, really get someone. That 6.9 and Mobley probably can still get you SAR who value is really low considering he was on the bench. He's 26 and a very, very productive player. Mobley is cap friendly. If the Rockets do somehow get SAR for Mobley, I hope they leave Cato or Taylor unprotected and then use the mle to get a long, active backup like Etan Thomas. When Francis doesn't yo-yo the ball and makes his mind up, he does good things.

I'm happy with the players we have. I'm not totally against the idea of a trade, but I think the real issue is learning how to get the most out of the players we have, not shipping them out. We have some really talented guys, they just dont always give it there all or perform to the best of their abilities.
