We would have made the West Conference Finals EASY. Would have beaten Utah. Breezed through GS. Then I think we would have had a great shot to beat SA. Then Cleveland would have been a breeze in the finals. Bonzi has been a beast this year! Forget James, Francis, & Scola... Bonzi is the main difference this year. and WE HAD HIM last year! Damn stubborm JVG!!! What could have been!?!
Bonzi had many opportunities over the course of the season to break in the rotation. He couldn't stay healthy for a significant stretch of games, and he wasn't playing particularly well while on the court either (9.0 PER). And the Rockets simply played better in games he wasn't playing. So, by Spring, JVG decided to stick with what was working. I think with the playoffs approaching in the final third of the season, JVG didn't want to waste time fitting Bonzi into the rotation. He liked Luther Head's three point shooting, and there wouldn't be room for significant minutes given to T-Mac, Battier, Luther, and Bonzi. Maybe it was short-sighted, but at the time it made sense to me. In retrospect, a decent Bonzi Wells would have been far more valuable than Luther Head against Utah. Of course, that's very easy to say now considering how bad Luther struggled with his shot (and everything else) in that series.
yeah, cause bonzi's game has always been such an "i'll out-athlete you" sort of game, not a "i'll sneak in to be the open man under the basket, and also grab rebounds with a knack for where the ball will ricochet" sort of game remember, CF peeps, you know who you all are....refusing to eat teh cr0w is super bad karma. we need to look forward though, and think about june everytime we have an easy matchup like tonight against the bobcats.
I think coach JVG didn't give up Bonzi. JVG knew what Bonzi can do. He gave Bonzi another chance when there are only 6-7 games left in regular season. But Bonzi isn't ready at all. Bonzi gave up the team. Why did Bonzi stay in Houston this season? Because nobody would take him. Even if He played very well this year, I believe that still no team will give him a long commitment. Rockets can give him an incentive contract like Bulls did to Rodman.
bonzi wouldnt have been nearly as effective as he is now because last year yao was parked in the low post 24/7. the main difference is adelman's system which allows bonzi to get his touches as well as other players. last year yao and t-mac had to beat teams. now that we're actually using other players in our offense we dont have to rely on yao and t-mac.
Durvasa are you attempting to eat crow because it sounds like you are defending JVG's decision not to play Bonzi when you should be having a healthy serving of CROW. Don't say anything about injuries because he was never injured last season. It was a personal pissing match between Bonzi and JVG and JVG decided his ego was more important than the team. Sad thing is if JVG puts his ego a side and plays Bonzi we probably make the WCF and he'd still be coaching here. So things worked out better for the Rockets because JVG would have never taken this team to a title IMO. Adelman is a better fit here. He can manage guys like Bonzi and get them to produce and he's made things easier for Yao and T-mac. It remains to be seen if he can lead us to a title but we shouldn't have to wait long to see if we can at least get past the first round.
first of all bonzi of last year could not do the thing that he is doing right now.this season he is in good shape and lost like 30 pounds and counting ,this make a big difference,i don't think he would have the kind of impact that he is having now last year
I agree, inside info was Bonzi was NOT injured last year. The info doesn't get any better than Medical people. So glad that Napoleon is gone. Has Les had the doghouse dismantled yet?
Yeah he would've helped but i think we still would've needed somebody like a mike james that can slash and go to the basket
Bonzi came in out of shape that last year he played with Sacramento and he killed the Spurs in the playoffs at the end of that year under Adelman Bonzi came in out of shape that first year he played with Houston and he didn't play in the playoffs at the end of that year under Jeff Van Gundy That's the bottom line.
First, Bonzi this year was no where near the Bonzi last year that came into camp. With that said, If we had THIS Bonzi LAST year, we would have got out the first round and JVG would still be our coach.
No, I'm not attempting to eat crow. JVG, for the most part, made the right decisions with respect to Bonzi in my opinion. I don't believe in giving players who don't come into camp in shape and act like training camp/practice doesn't matter a free pass. I'm applying the same standard to Steve this season. Arguments could be made on both sides for whether Bonzi should have gotten more opportunities down the stretch as the playoffs were approaching. So your argument essentially amounts to an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory. Swell.
LOL Bonzi was fat, injured and didn't play well. He had his chances and couldn't take advantage of them. If we had THIS YEAR'S Bonzi last season then I agree we likely would have to gone to the WCF and maybe beyond but we had last season's Bonzi last season. That version was pretty much worthless. There is no crow to eat concerning this matter.
Bonzi had a 2 INCH VERTICAL last year... I remember distinctly one of the games where he got ample playing time (a Yao/T-Mac injured game), and he could hardly get off the ground to dunk the ball. He sulked throughout the off-season after his agent botched his big FA deal... he was hurt/out of shape... and he clashed with the coach, while every single other player on the team (esp. the star players) didn't. The only difference this year is that Bonzi realized he was one more bad year from never getting another decent contract offer ever (hence the reason why he didn't opt out). I'll credit him NOW with actually getting off his ass to get in shape, and to not let his fragile ego get shattered by the new coach... but there was nothing sympathetic about Bonzi's existance last season.
