This may have already been addressed here on the board, and forgive me if I am repeating a topic, but do we keep Taylor if we land Webber? Webber appears to be more of a power forward than a center so do you move Taylor to the bench if we keep him? Or maybe the Rockets could start CWebb at center and let Taylor play the PF. If just seems to me that Webber fits the description of what a real big man should be. Sometimes I feel that Taylor, despite being talented offensively, does not have the rebounding and defensive abilties that we sorely lack from our front court. I am tempted in this situation to just let Mo Taylor go at the end of the season, but I know that there are hardly any quality big men in the league that we can get. To me Webber is the obvious choice for the next piece of the puzzle, and with the backcourt we already have in place we would be a sure lock for the playoffs. ------------------

Why you say miracle? The Rockets have the money and C-Webb said that Houston will be one of his top choices. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.

Try looking in this mornings edition of the Houston Chronicle. www.chron.com and just look in the sports section under basketball. You will find it there. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/795352 there is the direct link. ------------------ [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited January 14, 2001).]
Some of you think it will take a miracle to land CWebb, but I think we have a pretty decent shot. I think it could come down to us and Sacramento. If we do land him you can count Mo out. There are 2 ways to land webber: sign and trade, or just sign him. Either way, Mo will be gone. If we just sign Webber, we won't have enough left over...and if we trade for him, Mo likely will be included. ------------------ "Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. Mo is a free agent next year and we do not have bird rights so there will be no sign and trade with Mo. ------------------
Although the Chronicle did report that C-Webb said he would like to come to Houston, it also said that he had made this comment in every city he has visited this year. Don't get your hopes up. Does anyone know how old Webber is? ------------------
To answer the original question posed in this post. If we get Webber, what happens to Taylor? WHO CARES !!! DaDakota ------------------ If Mankind evolved from monkeys and apes, then why are there still monkeys and apes?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Rockets will have the cap room to sign Webber to the maximum deal he craves. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
Wrong, we will have MAX money for him. With Hakeem going to Vancouver next year, we will have a big chunck for bigger, better, Webber...AND salary cap goes up 11.3% next season. No MO. Keep SA, and deep playoff city baby! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
O, Yea,..CWebb must stipulate his arrival equates to unis minus stripes! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
Just did some research on this, and found that as long as the Rockets: 1) Keep Shandon to his current contract (i.e. he takes the player option for the last year). 2) We don't re-sign Bullard. 3) Give Norris a small deal. 4) We don't re-sign Taylor. 5) Let Hakeem go. ...we will have around $10 million to toy with. And, as DaDakota said, if we get Webber who cares what the heck happens to Mo Taylor? ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
If the Rockets gets Webber I will be happy. Just imagine the starting five: C-Kelvin Cato PF-Chris Webber SF-Maurice Taylor SG-Shandon Anderson PG-Steve Francis That is an all-star lineup. Plus we got Thomas, Norris, Williams, Mobley, Collier, Rogers and the 2001 draft picks coming off the bench. We will have a nice, strong frontcourt who rebounds, play defense, post-up and block shots if we can add Webber to our team. We will also have one of the top backcourts with Francis, Mobley, Anderson and Norris. If we sign Webber, I predict we will win the championship. With Cato getting more playing time, he will prove that he is a solid center who can rebound, play defense, block shots and be athletic. With Webber continuing to be one of the best power forwards, he will definetely add a great post-up game and defense to the Rockets. With Maurice Taylor being over-sized at small forward, he can take advantage of smaller small forwards by posting them out and demanding the double teams. With Cato, Webber and Taylor the Rockets would have one of the toughest frontcourts in the NBA. A frontcourt with size, strength, defense, athletic abilities and offensive scoring. Plus we got Carlos Rogers who never disappoints when he gets quality playing time. Rogers always steps up when someone gets injured giving the Rockets solid rebounding, defense, athleticism, size and scoring. Like Carlos Rogers, Kenny Thomas is a great scorer and rebounder. Walt Williams would give the Rockets an extra boost with his three-point shooting. Dan Langhi would get minutes at small forward to show his abilities. Jason Collier would provide a solid backup to Kelvin Cato at the center position. Along with a solid frontcourt we have quick, athletic and high-scoring guards. ------------------
DJ: Taylor wont be here if Webber comes. Simple as that. There's no room for him, nor is there any $$. Taylor can't play sf anyway. ------------------ When 1 door closes another 1 open; but we so often look so long & so regretfully on da closed door, that we dont see the ones that be opening for us - alaskanSnowman
10 mill? Isn't Webber gonna be able to get like 12 to 14 a year? Why would he take 2 to 4 million less? to play in Houston? Bah. Webber is a pipe dream. ------------------ snap crackle pop
You have to look at this as good news. If he plays for Houston, and that is a big if, then it means he definately wants to be with us. He'd be taking less money to join a team that isn't even good enough to make the playoffs. That's a big statement. Another thing you've got to remember about Webber is that he brings a following. There are players lining up to play with him. especially at SF. signing Webber has the potential to re-shape the roster despite the reality that we'd be salary cap restricted. I don't think this decision will come down to money. The money will be good enough from all sides. I think it will come down to one of two things. 1) Does he want to join a team in the East and push them into the Finals. Or 2) does he want to play near his family? It's that simple if you ask me. Something else may get thrown into the mix between now and then, but right now...I'd say he has to choose between winning and family. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
