What player who'll be available in the upcoming would yo most like to see wearing the pin-striped PJ's come next fall? Considering talent AND team needs, who would fit in best with Stevie, Mobley, and Eddie as cornerstones of the next NBA dynasty?

Call me crazy, but unless we go top three, I think we should go after Mike Dunleavy.

as much as i'd like to see Yao Ming drafted by the rockets and "possibly" develop into a center that shuts down most things inside by pure length and better athleticism and wits than bradley,

i'd have to want the rocks to draft another strong rebounding PF type who can somewhat gun. without zones, we need more able bodied guys who can produce on both ends and finish on transition. the rockets should be a fast transition team with francis, cat and griffin

Crazy! Dunleavy is a second round pick at best. If we have a lottery pick and we draft him I am going to go to Rudys house and slap him!

If the rocks somehow completely suck the rest of the year and end up with a top pick I have a feeling they will probably trade it. This team is already too young and don't need any more teenagers playing for them. Hopefully they could pull a Clippers and get a player with some experience ala Brand. Jamison and Rashard Lewis are the top players that come to mind. If you can think of others please fill free to share.

I like Amare Stoudemire or Yao Ming. We need a big man and they would more than fulfill our needs. If we're able to get Stoudemire or Ming, I say within a couple years we can be top contenders with a killer lineup with Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Stoudemire/Ming, not to mention Mo, Kenny, Oscar, and others. If we're not high enough to get Ming or Stoudemire Chris Marcus should be a solid choice. With the Raps 1st rounder, we should go after a SF because Dirty Rice sucks and Griffin will probably be a 4 not a 3. We're deep at SF but we don't have the same kind of quality players as we do at the other non-center positions.

How would Drew Gooden fit in?

    Shooters. Shooters. Shooters.

Mike Dunleavy is the obvious choice. But, Jason Kapano has an awesom stroke too, he could turn out to be another Peja Stojokovich, imo. Preston Shumpert(sp) is another guy who could help raise this teams shooting averages.

If you plan on keeping the big 3 together (Steve, Cat, Eddie), you have to go for either a SF, or a C.

Stoudamire-Who knows on him? From what I've heard, his offensive game consists of exclusively dunks, and put backs, not quite what he's being made out to be.

If you're considering trading Francis or Mobley, depending what one could net you, obviously Wagner or Williams would be a nice choice.

If Marcus can improve his foot speed, maybe. If Ming shows good upper body strength, definitely.

I don't see Gooden as much use for a team with Griffin.

I like Jared Jeffries' game a lot. Reminds me of Jalen Rose. Grizzard is a nice player as well.

Dunleavy...hard to judge if he's a product of his system. Good player, no doubt, but a little overhyped IMO. Nice all-around player, but I don't expect him to come out this year, anyway.

The Rudy player of the draft IMO is Brian Cook. 6'11'' 240, shot-blocking and rebounding, and a nice outside shot.

Actually, I don't see you going after any of the guys in this draft. I see you trading our picks for someone who has already begun to develop, just not blossomed yet.

So, later this year, we trade Wiz, whose contract is about to expire, our draft picks (our #1, Toronto's #1 and #2), and perhaps Collier, if he's proven himself more by that time for either:

DeSagana Diop, Keon Clark/Mamadou N'Diaye, Raef LaFrentz

I'd like to trade Marc Jackson next year for Kenny Thomas, but I doubt GS will ever let him come here now...

I don't see anyone taking Cato, so I think we're just going to have to make the best of it. His problem is in his head. We need to hire a coach/trainer just for Cato, a big man specialist, who takes the time to motivate and train him. Perhaps after we're done, either he'll turn out, or become tradeable.

I'd like to see Griffin bulk up and become our future 5. Then have:

    Griffin/new center/Cato/Collier
    Taylor/Jackson or Thomas
    TMo/Langhi
    Mobely/Torres
    Francis/Norris/Brown

I don't know what will happen to Rice... maybe he'll get real injured and the league gives us another medical excemption...

If we hired a hypnotist to implant a positive suggestion in Cato's head (something like "I am not a total failure"), would the hypnotist's bill be included in a trade deal, considering the headshrinker had to follow him?

Rhetorical question, no need to reply.

Actually, I like Sherlock's thinking. And NIKEstrad's thinking. I just have to think though that something less sane, predictable, and orderly will have to occur...

drafting anything other thanfrontcourt help is irresponsible, in my opinion...it would be a huge mistake! even with Francis, this is not a playoff team...it would appear taking Rice's ridiculous salary is a big mistake that will keep us from being a player in the free agent market next season.

bad decisions...too many long contracts for players not worthy of them. cato at 7 years...moochie at 5 years (for a freaking backup point guard?? )...all of this really works against you...it sets you with players you might decide you don't want to be set with! in drafting griffin the Rockets themselves said they'd be taking a step backwards to go two steps forward in 2002/2003...but so many of you here said they were going to be so much improved. At this point, we ought to focus our attention everyday on doing whatever it takes to keep Stevie Franchise in a Rockets uniform...if he was ever curious about playing for another team before, you can bet he's even more so this year.

With Lorenzen Wright out for at least a month, Memphis needs a center. Big Country Reeves is also still hurt.

Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Memphis
    TOTAL: $6,048,000

Memphis trades: Isaac Austin $5,695,715 to Houston
    TOTAL: $5,695,715

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Austin's contract expires after this season.

I think the Grizz might go for it.

Dunleavys the best college player in the country. Hands down.

Go watch how this guy plays. Hes the smartest college player I have seen in a while. I would get Dunleavy with a top 3 pick.

for those of you who are talking about drafting big, forget it- unless there's somebody overseas that's a 'can't miss' four-tool kind of player (run, handle, pass, shoot) with size, there's nobody home.

With my lottery pick I look at Jason Williams- strong, fast as lightning, great decision-maker for one so young- and move Franchise to the 2. Then I see if I can package Mobley and a pick to the Suns for Bo Outlaw and Jake Voskuhl, maybe? I can think of worse things than the Philly approach to building a roster.

Dunleavy is easy gonna be as good as Peja and is probably gonna be a little better his shooting is perfect his floor game is smooth and his fundamentals are absolutely top-notch Duke style. Those who think his athleticism is in question are mostly wrong and are missing his bigger picture game anyway. Grizzard will be like a Jalen Rose though the only player I'd want more for our team than one of these guys is Ming yeah I know the potential stiff risk but i believe in the payoff more. Marcus will end up being a slightly better Big Country but get injured too much and be really slow up and down the floor and still not really be able to contain Shaq at all. Now the question is how do we get a high lotto pick when we make the playoffs.:D
