If we don't renounce Dream, can't we easily sign all our FA's?

I don't mean to be simplistic about all this, but we've all been assuming that we'd renounce dream and then have to fit under the cap.

We only needed that to get under the cap to get the free agents we wanted, specifically Webber. If we no longer want him, and there isn't a center to pick up out there, why would we any longer need to do that?

If we re-sign everyone, and give raises where deserved, then Dream at a lower price (but something that he still feels is his market value and honor's his place in Rocket history), we won't go under the salary cap. We can then still sign someone with the 4.5 mil exception. We'll still be under the 55 mil salary luxury tax cap, and we get everyone on the team, plus one. If we want, then we can trade for someone too. I know that Mo hoped to get a larger contract from us getting under, but I'm sure something could be worked out...

AElliot is the expert. Can you give us your expert opinion on this?

If we don't go after Webber, aren't we better off not being over the cap, so we have the exception if we need it?

    My understanding...

The Rockets have no rights to re-sign Taylor for any significant money unless they have cap room. He only signed a one-year deal, so unless he's willing to accept the minimum or an exception, they can't sign him without cap room.

They could re-sign Shandon Anderson to an "Early Bird" contract, as they did with Mobley last season, but Dan Fegan, Shandon's agent, says they won't accept that. I can't see Fegan getting more from the Rockets than Mobley got (unless they start talking heave ratios)

Don't know what it would take with Moochie. Bullard would probably sign for the $1 million.

Clutch-Mooch has early bird as well.

As far as Mo goes, many outlets report he signed with a player opt. 2nd year. I'd assume it's a foregone conclusion that he'll opt out. But, wouldn't it be wild if he didn't?

I guess they could re-sign Anderson and Norris to early bird deals and Bullard to the veteran's exception without renouncing Hakeem. The problem is timing.

To sign Mo (or Webber or whoever) means signing people in order.

    1. Renounce or re-sign Hakeem. Either move will likely free up millions under the cap.
    2. Sign Taylor and/or any free agent. The Rockets can use as much of the cap space they have for this.
    3. Sign Norris and Anderson to early bird deals. They can go over the cap to do this but they cannot go over the cap to sign Mo or free agents so this move has to come after #2.
    4. Sign Bullard to the veteran's minimum. They can sign as many to the minimum as they want without regards to the cap. Technically, I believe Bullard could even get more than that because he's been with the Rockets long enough.

It's really all about timing from my understanding but I could be wrong. Correct me if so guys! [IMG]
