If we don't end up moving McGrady and use him for cap relief for this summers FA', should we tank and be in the lottery get a decent rookie and also a decent Free Agent? I know it's not likely to happen but with injuries starting to set in as they usually do for us, should we let Dorsey and Taylor play some quality minutes? Fozzey
We can trade for GS #1-3 pick, Trade Yao Ming to Utah for Kerilenko and their top pick via NY on draft day AND lastly tank. You would have 'two' top 5 picks and a top ten pick, cleared cap room in the process without even moving Brooks or Landry.
Tank? not intentionally, no. However if we just so happen to not make the playoffs then that's fine with me. A lot of the expectations in this board before this season started was that we wouldn't make the playoffs anyway. This was supposed to be a season for our players to grow and just go out and have fun (since clearly we're nowhere near contending this year). I like where are team is heading, despite all the Ariza factors. We should be psyched going into next season. ..and how many threads have there been talking about tanking?
Yeah, we should! John Wall ftw! One more week, then we will all know what's gonna happen. For now, I think we should either tank or make a move to trade for something we need desperately to improve our offense. Only Brooks and Landry could score in the crunch time, if they got doubled or cut off from the teammates, no one could step up and make a field goal consistently. And meanwhile other teams in the league have gradually come to realize what's the weakness of this Rockets basketball team, body up on Brooks, double team Landry, then good thing would pop up for the opposing team. Puh-lease! Morey, at least something, better than nothing, otherwise, what are we fighting for? Not a playoff spot, just close to the 8th in the standing? That'll lower our chances of getting a high draft pick!
Tanking is such an ugly word. The better way to say it is "player development". And yes, the Rockets should do this regardless of whether we make a trade or not. Dorsey becoming a capable role player will make Chuck Hayes more expendable. Same with Taylor and potentially Battier, Ariza, or even Budinger. The Rockets won't tank in the turest of the sense(ala SA for Duncan or Cleveland or Lebron). But winning games should definitely become a lesser priority than getting our young assets more chances to develop.
Tanking is the absolute lowest form of basketball play, nothing brings up more hatred than tanking in my book. In famous words "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!" That being said if ever we are completely out of the playoff picture with 10-15 games to go I don't mind if we start "developing" players such as Cook, Andersen and the like. Otherwise, no, you just don't send that message to your players to tank.
Yes, I couldn't agree more... It's not tanking(we would never do that), Lets just give some heavy minutes to Dorsey, Taylor, & Budinger so they can develop... -RB
Wesley Johnson, Derrick Favors and Cole Alrich. Alrich/Dorsey/Andersen Favors/Dorsey/Radmanovic Landry/Maggette/Budinger Budinger/Johnson/Azubuike Brooks/???? Picks 3-6-7 is what your aiming for with a little bit of luck. If it does not work, then move Maggette and he's a trade chip. Keep Battier, Radmanovic and Azubuike on their last year, because Brooks and Landry will be do for extension.
Keep going about your business the way you have been. If you consider that tanking, fine. If not, that's fine too.
of course...our team is goin nowhere but down if we stand pat...it will be a win-win situation for us.
Yes. We lost to the Sixers. We're not winning a chip. Let's not sacrifice draft positioning letting scrappy role players outperform expectations, so much so that our future talent is affected dramatically.
So in addition to trading for junk and a GS pick, you want to trade Yao. To Utah. For Kirilenko. There is so much fail in that I don't know where to begin. And no, you whiners, we're not tanking. Get over it. We're fighting to the end, and we have every right to do it.
Makes basketball sence to trade Yao for a good pick. Your focus is on Kerilenko my concern is regarding the pick.
Even ignoring the whole "Houston is not trading Yao for anyone not named Lebron" factor It's Andrei Kirilenko. Seriously, you want Andrei Kirilenko on this team? For a maybe top 10 pick, as New York could make the playoffs in the junk Leastern Conference, you want to take Andrei Kirilenko. I would quit being a Rockets fan if that happened. And let's look at your final team. You have say, the #5 pick, #10 pick (let's say for equivalent they're each as good as Roy and Amare, which is really pushing and they won't be remotely that good in their rookie years)...... and a bunch of useless, massively overpaid trash. Hey, this sounds familiar! Almost like the Rockets in the middle of the decade, except that I doubt a # 5 rookie pick will be anywhere as good as prime McGrady! We're looking good, bro!
I dont believe in tanking per se, but I do believe in letting the young guys learn under fire. IE, you remove Shane and start CBud....and you play Dorsey and Taylor.....you got to find out if they can help you going forward. This probably costs the team some wins....and is a form of tanking...but it would be good for the team going forward. DD
Yao's value - who only been out of the first round once is no where near the value of LeBron James so scratch that theory. You could use it 3-4 years ago. That was then.
