What the hell are we going to do?

Run back pleading to Dunleavy that he was our man all along?

Beg Rudy to lead the reigns once again?

Blow up the phones to Doug Moe, Cotton Fitzsimmons, and Bill Fitch?

This is going to be a COMPLETE nightmare if Van Gundy says "no thanks" and we will be scrambling to find a coach.....

Im a bit of a pessismist and I hope Im wrong, but this cant be a good thing if he turns us down......

I have a feeling Alvin Gentry may be included in the mix.

IMO, the whole coaching matter has been mishandled from the "get go." Rudy's exit was mishandled, the Brown matter, virtually announcing Van Gundy before an aggreement. A public relations nightmare, sort of like the Rocket's homecourt losses to cellar-dwellers. Sort of like signing Norris, Cato, and Taylor to "superstar" instead of "journeyman" contracts. Sort of like saying that you were going to have a "run and gun" offense and never having it. Sort of like.........

That is a good question. I wonder who else we have in mind. It seems like the Rockets have only those two in mind.

Exactly, they have put themselves in a bad position with this "hire a big name attitude". Just hire a good coach, and interveiw all good young coaches, big name or not. Les thinks fans are so gullible that we will go to games just because the coach is famous. This whole thing is a joke.

I heard either today or Monday. Today at the party would be the best case scenario though.

Have CD be the interim coach for one year, then hire Avery Johnson as coach next year.

Once the matter of compensation and team control are hammered out, this will be OK. If the Wiz actually offered $7 mil per year, as the papers reported (?), then Les better realize, you gotta give to get.

Somehow we've gone from having the best coaching opening in the league to kissing JVG's ass to coach our team and him being undecided. Unless this is some ploy to get away with not giving compensation to the Knicks for JVG then this has been a total disaster.

Find someway in hell to get Pat Riley.

    Or Rick Carlisle.

And if that is unsuccessful.....Larry Smith or Calvin Murphy.....

    Maybe bring back Rudy embarrasingly.

    Or get MacBeth!

That would be sad if he says No Thanks. 3 blown opportunities....oh well.

I won't be a very happy fan if we can't get Van Gundy and end up with UGH..Mike Dunleavy.

Also.....IF VAN GUNDY SAYS NO THANKS, I will hate him forever.

Can you imagine if this actually happened? Would this be considered the biggest debacle in sports history? What would be more funny is that in order for the Rockets to beg Rudy to come back, Les has to give him a raise and pay him $7 million per year.

It would be FUNNY to all the other basketball fans in the world.....but sad and humiliating to all Rockets fans. VERY VERY SAD. And I hope that doesn't happen. ;) And it won't! BECAUSE WE ARE GETTING JEFF VAN GUNDY! If we don't...it would be very very sad to all Rockets fans and very very funny to all the other basketball fans in the world.

Even as a Rockets fan, while embarassing and humiliating, it would still be kind of funny. Sort of like watching the Buffalo Bills debacle, while shocking and sad, it was still kind of funny when you think about it because this could only happen to the Oilers.

    Fire/Lose Rudy.
Go after Larry Brown. Lose out on Larry.
Go after Jeff Van Gundy. If we Lose out on Van Gundy we're going to look pretty damn bad.
Publicly turned down by 2 high profile coaches and firing another.

I just watched the Van Gundy answering the Houston media yesterday and it made me feel that he's not going to take the job. He spoke well, but it seemed like he was just being polite/courteous. But it's all wait and see at this point.
