If TMac wins multiple championships, can he possibly reach Jordan's status?

He's only 25 right now. Say, he plays 10 more years as a Rocket. Before he retires, he wins 3 championships(with multiple memorable NBA history book moments), while averaging something like 28/6/6 for his career and getting 3 MVPs along the way. In the mean time, he keeps a clean image (no Kobe rape, Kemp drug, Griffin shooting and Artest brawl nonsense) and makes a ton of cool commercials.

When it's all said and done, does he have a chance to reach Michael Jordan's status? If not (Jordan is said to be the best player ever, so it's pretty hard for anyone to get there), will he reach Magic/Bird/Shaq/Wilt/Russell's status as one of the NBA's best players ever?

I love T-Mac a hell of a lot more than I like LeBron (considering Tracy is the Rocket's best player), but the only guy I could ever see reaching Jordan's status is King James himself. He has all the things that can get him there, and I don't mean just on-the-court stuff. This is not a diss to T-Mac at all; it's just that LeBron could, no one else.

Tmac does not have the inner fire that Jordan had...the competitiveness.

    Lebron has it.....

Tmac is a great player, but not of Jordan's status.

T-mac wins 4 and he'll be his side kick. He wins six he'll overtake him. The world works thats way. Always has. Do you think we remember bill russell. Na. Not really. Sheer numbers of people guarantee it. But will it happen. That is the question.

Lebron, T-Mac, Kobe...none will be Jordan-status until they...
    Not in any particular order...
1.) win a lot of rings
2.) make his team better (meaning without him, they are garbage)...I mean Lebron and T-mac have fairly good supporting casts, mainly centers (Z and Yao). Jordan had ... longley, Wennington?
3.) hit game winner after game winner after game winner
4.) Take over game after game after game
5.) Have a driving force in their lives...I think T-mac has that with so many deaths we've heard about. Lebron...i haven't heard anything (could be mistaken though).

Legends, for some reason, always seem to be based on some sort of struggle and hardship. Jordan had the death of his father that one championship year. Also that one game where he was just about dead and played...crazy...

I kept thinking over the weekend that over these last few games, Tmac might be the best outside player I've ever seen. I'm admitting bias here because I'm a Rockets fan and I've never been a Jordan fan. But has there ever been a player of Tmac's size with his range, speed and mobility? Gervin maybe?

I definitely do not want to get into a fight about Jordan versus Tmac. But Tmac is much more likable (imo), has better range, is a better teammate, and might be a better playmaker. Plus, I don't remember (honestly, I don't remember) Jordan getting double teamed 5 to 10 feet beyond the three point line for long stretches of a game and still putting up 30 points. I can't say enough good things about the guy.

Perhaps we should stop having threads like this until T-Mac wins his first championship.

When you're talking about "Jordan status", it's not just about stats, or the number of championships. But rather about stepping it up and prove in the playoffs that you are the best. Jordan didn't just win 6 championships. He was also the best player in the league for those 6 championships seasons. Basically, you're talking about someone who won and put up insane stats at the same time. The Dream did it for 2 seasons. Duncan did it for 2 seasons. Shaq did it for maybe 3 times, and that's arguable because some might feel that maybe Kobe was the better player in one of those runs. Jordan, of course, did it 6 straight times.

If T-Mac wants to be Jordan, he can't just win at least 5-6 championships. He also needs to show in each of those championship runs that he is the best player in the game each and every time.

No it just helps other people understand how lucky we all are that we get to see such a great player every night... Lets face it Dream as of now is what everyone remembers when they hear "ROCKETS" Tracy has a HELLA long way to go before he gets there, but I would not be suprised if Tracy gets up there with the ranks of Dream, Elvin, Calvin, Rudy and Clyde or over takes Dream..
